Sacrificial throw rugs. Buy on the cheap. Scotchguard and use them to cover the new floor, spot clean, wash, or toss away if they get too soiled. That allows your doggy to still be a part of the family and house and you can move it all into the garage when guests come over. Just a thought.
I had a female GS that lost bladder control. I loved her too much to get rid of her and material things can be repaired or replaced. |

Would he use an automatic doggie door?
Electronic Dog Doors | Large Dog Doors | Doggie Doors | America?s Finest Pet Doors Custom Dimension Pet Doors | Dog Doors | Cat Doors | America?s Finest Pet Doors If you've never crated him before, he might be devastated if you started now. But it sounds as tho' that isn't even an option in your mind. |

Doggy diapers if you're not willing to put down plastic. I think you are asking the impossible if you want to put down new floors and want to let the dog roam as before.

So, Chuck has spent the last few nights in the shower, or when no one's home. Big bowl of water, chew toy.
Last few nights, he was snoozing away. I didn't have to get up once. In the morning I let him out...he went to do his business. I noticed he pee'd in the shower. Hot water on...15 seconds later...we're done. The other day, a bigger "gift." Same deal. Cleaned up with a plastic bag, the rest down the drain. Floors are high and dry. Chuck's happy. I'm THRILLED!! |

I keep thinking about this thread and thought I didn't have any answers. But I have arrived t the conclusion that you could probably introduce a crate and he'd love it.
Dogs like enclosed spaces. The key is always give rewards when in the crate. Feed him in there. My dogs LOVE the crate. As long as its big enough. The tub works well too but he might get hurt in there. Either way, he sits in his pee. Crate would be more comfortable. When my dogs are sick or some crap(which seems like all the time) I just put old towels in there. They wash right up. Damn dogs. Sometimes my heart can't take it. |

You know...I didn't think about it. I was more focused on getting it (and the smell) out of there. At least my daughter gets her mani/pedi done for free! |

He'll start out in my son's bed, sleep there for a couple hours, then make his way to our bed and spend most of the night there. By 4 a.m. (after he's copped his morning squat outside) he'll cozy up in my daughter's bed where he sleeps until we leave for the day around 8:30 a.m. Then he goes down to the basement to play, sleep, and get into his usual brand of mischief until we get home. It sure doesn't take long for them to capture your heart. Already we're dreading the first week in April when he's scheduled to get neutered and has to spend the night away from us at the vet for the first time. I've said it before, but I'm convinced there's no greater source of unconditional love on earth than the canine. They are truly creatures after God's own heart.... |
