Check...that is what we have been seeing on the short time of research we have done.

If you are a U.S. citizen you can visit US territories like the Virgin Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico (there are a couple others) and you don't need to have a passport.

Google it.

Well, to be 100% truthful, I said continental because I didn't know there were places we could go without passports...so, that is open. HOWEVER, DC really has my interest because of all of the history and cool shit to see. Depends on what the wife wants. She has to go to Minnesota in a couple of weeks...she may be ready for a warm climate!

I assumed as much and was right, so suck it Tom!

For the record, DC is a trip that every American needs to make at least once in their life. When my kids are a few years older, i'll be taking them for sure.

BTW-Here is a cool bar.Jewish/Irish.You can get bacon in your matzoh ball soup.

Star & Shamrock - H Street Corridor/Atlas District/Near Northeast - Washington, DC
Right next to it is an awesome German bar/bistro with decent Schnitzel and beer in hugeass glasses.

Biergarten Haus - Washington, DC

Looks like Washington DC it is. It can be done within our budget, and my wife and I both enjoy the things it has to offer. Vatorman, expect a PM closer to time...I owe you a beer for the guidance!

San Diego if I was looking for sun and sand, or about 25 miles East of here (mt. Hood) if I was looking to ski.

Charlottesville, VA is about a 2 hour drive from DC if you decide to go there. I enjoyed touring Monticello and the area is quite nice.

DC you have Arlington, The Wall, Museum of Am. History, the bone building (right next to Am. Hist) is really cool also. Air & Space is a must do.

Seriously, you could take 2 weeks and be busy everyday.

Since you may be in the DC vicinity, head out to Dulles near Sterling, VA and stop by the Udvar-Hazy Flight Museum, an extension of the Smithsonian, has the Space Shuttle, Blackbird, some history making aircraft there.
Have a good time.

I'd rather pay to visit D.C. than go to Las Vegas for free.

Trying to stay out of Commie-fornia...But would love to do the Pacific Hwy drive...at some point in my life. 4-5 days isn't enough to see all we would want to see.

This. All fkin day long. Vegas has it's fun, and I'm sure as a single guy I would have loved the debauchery...however, I have to keep in mind that I am married, and for right now, want to stay that way!

It's the one "Don't miss" museum in my mind. Plus if you work it right, they show first run IMAX movies out there. We've gone out to the museum 3 hours prior to movie time and walked through the exhibits and then to the theater.
Be sure and hit Ben's Chili bowl and Old Ebbit Grill. Pretty much guaranteed to see some political schmuck there. Give them the finger and then have a nice dinner.
Sushi Taro is the best sushi in DC. If you do decided to explore Northeast DC-when you see bars on the windows and hear gunshots-you've gone far enough,go back.
