A guy I worked with years ago gave me one of those wine openers that injects CO2 with a long needle into the bottle, thus forcing the cork out. Neat!
So I used it a few times and then somebody else decides to try it. Except they were a moron and didn't take the foil off first. So they pump a bunch of CO2 in there and the cork hasn't budged. They ask me what is going on? I said "Dude, you have to take the foil off first. But dont..." Before I could say "Don't pull that needle out!" he of course pulled the needle out. This caused a stream of wine to spew out of the bottle clear up to the ceiling. In his haste to stem the damage, he managed to hit pretty much every wall in the room too. I had to have the ceiling repainted. I also threw that stupid wine opener away. |

Poorly made product. It should have some sort of regulator or check valve to prevent that from happening.
Why on earth would a company make a product like that, that's definitely going to be used by clumsy kids, that can explode the way that one did? |

We actually have a good amount of screw-top wine. There really isn't much of a stigma associated with it anymore. If the wine isn't meant to be aged, nothing wrong with a screw top or synthetic cork. We also buy boxed wine from DeLoach that fits the fitting on our wine keg, great for parties. Each box has four bottles worth of red wine, and it's good - about what you'd expect to pay $15/bottle for. I think each box is about $45 or so, not sure really.
