This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Lucas, it will soon see the end of oppression.

This, without a doubt, the best possible news Star Wars fans could hear. It may take a while to realize this, but it will come to pass.

Star Wars will now be under the ultimate control of one of the greatest minds in high quality entertainment today, John Lassetter, and the minds behind Pixar.

The Death Star lays shattered. Long Live The New Republic.

Wonder if they're going to go with the novels not being canon.

Or if they'll jump far enough out past them that it won't matter...

Doesn't matter.

The Clone Wars has shown that what matters is an understanding of what makes the Star Wars universe and style of storytelling special. As long as the people making these films have that, we're in for some fun.

I haven't got a clue what they're working up for Episode VII, but for some reason I doubt it will be as connected to The Skywalkers as using the name "Episode VII" would at first indicate.

What I want to know is when are they going to get off the damn pot and give us some bad ass Boba Fett Chronicles. I'd watch 45 minutes of that weekly.

This is a good thing.

Star Wars is too awesome for any director to screw up, unless of course that director is George Lucas.

Whatever they're about, 7-9 will probably be good movies.

It was never originally promised. He never said there was a 9 film story.

He took what, in an alternate universe, could have been 9, and made it 3, and then padded out the backstory to make 3 more. The whole mythology of 7-8-9 stems from quotes in Starlog Magazine, taken out of context and twisted.

The Skywalker Story ends with Vader's redemption and Luke's ascension to Jedi Knight.

The novels that take place after The Battle Of Endor were to be George's bone thrown to the fans, giving them more of the Skywalker/Solo family. The fact that George let these books be written proves that these movies were never, ever going to happen.

... and I'll bet dimes to donuts, they never will. I'm betting Episode VII is not the continuation of the Skywalker/Solo story at all.

I'm putting the odds at 80/20 against... because we're in new territory here and it isn't impossible that Disney will use the novels as basis for going forward with films. Speaking honestly, we could do a whole lot worse.

Interesting times to be a fan.

I'll be a believer when the original theatrical releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi are released on Blueray.

Answer me this; What is the purpose of having a 1080p crystal clear digital presentation of a film that was originally shot on WWII vintage 70mm celluloid and achieves a significant part of it's look from the grain and poor resolution film brings?

The 2009 DVD release of the original unfuctwith, laserdisc presentation looks correct. Bluray will be so clear as to ruin the film. remastered DVD is already too clean, you can see the brush strokes in the paint on Vader's helmet and the camera crews in the reflections on C3P0.

We've already got the best possible presentation of what those films originally looked like.

Because Han shot first and so I can purge the last remaining DVD from my collection. That's pretty much it.

Every screenwriter in Hollywood is geeking out to be the one chosen. I don't see any way they can have VII released in 2015. It'll take a year just to navigate the minefield filled with the potentials for story lines.

Is it Han and Leia's Kid? Luke repopulating the Jedi? Rebuilding the old Republic and ending the Empire? What do you do with the stupid stuff? Jar Jar and Midiclorians? The Sith and the Empire are gone, so you need whole new antagonists. Just getting the story right will be a trick. And Disney is famous recently for not doing much of anything.

I'm a huge fan but I've drawn the line at the movies, I've never read the books or seen much of the cartoons or played the video games. For guys like me who grew up on the movies - this next stage will be interesting.

Apparently Episode VII has been in development for over a year, like this deal, and the movie itself was what got Mickey to get the pen out. I had a feeling something big was coming when Kathleen Kennedy was tapped to be co-chairman at Lucasfilm some months ago. I'll admit I thought that something was Indy 5-6-7, but I like this better.

The best part of the whole deal is the fact that Disney will be far less likely to pull a Jar-Jar or a Midichlorians on us because they aren't "making my movies my way, mine, mine, mine" like Jowels was. They're producing a product with a dedicated fandom, whose pockets they'd really like to get into. They know the easiest way to do that is to sneak in while our jaws are on the floor.

We've already seen what happens when Disney buys a beloved entertainment company and lets it continue to do what it does all by itself. All we have to do is look over at the silly stupid grins on the Marvel fanboys faces lately.

There will be another character like Jar-Jar,bet on it. Disney needs a marketing tie in with kids. Need to keep selling $50 plushies at Disney World somehow.
