Default Pics from Gunnison Car show!

Ok gents (and I use the term loosely)....we're back from the Gunnison car show. And just so this is C4 related, I actually saw a 91 ZR-1 and a 92 Polo Vert on the main street show.

We took the Fiero on this little sojourn....1600 miles in 3 days. Car had one minor hiccup 200 miles into the trip....overheated just outside Belen, NM. We stopped in Belen at a gas station and it puked the coolant all over the ground from the overflow bottle. Went across the street and had dinner and let it cool off....found a stuck thermostat. Removed the stat, refilled the coolant, nursed it into Santa Fe for the night. Next morning, new T-Stat and radiator cap, and back on the road. Car ran well the rest of the trip.

Anyhoo.....PICS! I promised pics, didn't I? Here we go…..a few Fiero shots first of the drive up.

Just crossing into Colorado....20 minute wait for road construction...good photo op. Lead car is 88 Formula, second car is 88 Mera, third is my 86 GT....AKA Problem Child.

At Poncha Springs, CO....met up with two more Fieros heading to the show....the yellow one here is a very nicely done 85 Corvette TPI / 5 speed swap....and it's a woman's car. She had NO trouble going over Monarch Pass

Another 65 miles into Gunnison.....dinner, and then line the cars up for the Friday Night Street show....about 10 Fieros showed up, but there were about 250-300 cars if my count was correct.

And the Three Stooges at Blue Mesa dam...

And the judging....only 5 Fieros entered the Saturday car show....the rest of us spent 2 hours at the show in the morning, and carving up the twisties in the afternoon.

Now that the Fiero part is covered.....I'll post up some of the classic / muscle / street rod pics as soon as I get them hosted. I've got a new 14MP Nikon that takes great pics.....problem is, I have to shrink them before Imageshack will let me upload....so it's time consuming.

More Later......

First, a couple of Chevys....

This vert is a survivor....18K original miles....flawless...

.....and then a very sharp 4-4-2

This big block 4 speed '73 Stingray looked like the day it was born...

I don't think I have to describe this one to anybody...

More to follow.....

Great pics Friz. That looks like it was a good show and 1600 mile trip would be outstanding.

It was an 86, and it looked to be stock. Good looking car. There were only three C4's......and it was the best of the bunch. The ZR-1 had been....let's say "enjoyed" by its owner.

I've got more pics....will post as I get them shrunk. There was some really cool stuff there, including two Mustangs that caught my eye. A very sharp '69 Boss 302 in yellow, and a '70 Mach 1 wearing a nice shade of blue.

Weather was great for the show....we hit rain going up and coming back, but just enough to get the cars dirty. Nothing serious.

If you don't get out this way Pete, I will head to SoCal sometime in the spring for my annual trek to my birthplace. What's the shortest way to get to L.A. without going through Cucamonga??

Well the only way to get to LA without going to Cucamonga is on the 60. As you already know it starts at the 10 about a mile west of Beaumont. That split is also about 120 miles south of Barstow.

Well, I sorta have to. My grandmother is buried at Rose Hills in Whittier....gotta drop off flowers. No need to go into LA proper anymore.

A feather huh? Actually, the Fiero runs cooler than my C4.

Sometimes I think about my little 85 Repairo.

It was my third beater car, and it started out as a 4cyl. Found out the hard way about the positive battery cable shorting out! Then I was able to buy a 6cyl from a front end wrecked GT for only $300! Did a bunch of research, and finally just swapped computer and fuel tanks, popped in the second fuel fuse, out with the old cradle and in with the new, and VOILA! Instant awesomeness!

Some time later the trans locked up mysteriously, and I couldn't get it out of second gear no matter what I tried. I parked it for years, thinking some day I'd resurrect it with a Getrag trans and a V8 swap, and maybe do a Lambo kit. Then I got older and money got tighter so . . . I ended up giving the car to some kid that walked up my yard one day. "Excuse me sir, but would you consider selling that car?" I told him no, but he was welcome to come pick it up and take it away!

Maybe my little Repairo is still out there tearing up the streets.

^^^ haha, yeah- My friend was an early adopter of a 1984 that had like 2 engines put into it due to the (in)famous bad rod forgings/ fire hazard from some under hood heat source.

It failed the cooling system , ignition module, fuel pump when it was 15 years old too, but he loved that thing. The city finally towed it away when it got left on the street with a bad transmission (2nd one).

I spent a little time working on it, but I could never understand the love for the base model with the iron duke. I used to always think the mailman was early every time I heard that engine.
