Dan, That is a great car at an unbelievable price! Those were the days when all you needed was a good set of tools, some gauges, timing light, and a good manual. Ah, the pungent smell of dipping carburetor parts into that one gallon can. The late nights rebuilding the master cylinder, cylinders and the brakes, etc. It brings back some good memories. I know you are going to have a blast!!!!!

Well, the gas tank is out.....and I'm now the proud owner of 4 gallons of the most rancid gasoline on the planet. It's in 4 one gallon containers, and will go to work with me tomorrow where we have disposal facilities. When I disconnected the fuel line at the tank....tar came out. I'm not shitting you....tar. 8 year old gasoline reverts to crude oil.....and it REEKS. I spilled about a 4" spot on the ground by the garage, and I can smell it from the street.

Will order a new tank, sending unit, and fuel line next paycheck. I suspect a fuel pump too....this stuff absolutely turned to goo. By the next time I fire it off, it will also have a new intake and carb....too much broken to even consider rebuilding the ratty old 2bbl on it.

I still don't know how healthy the motor is....only that it will start and run. We couldn't keep it running very long with a spray bottle, so it will have to wait until the new fuel system is in. But even if the motor is junk, I can still use the intake and carb on another 351W.

Still....30 minutes to get the fuel tank out. Simplicity at it's finest. It will probably take me 4-5 years to get it fully sorted, but I've been down that road before.

Will keep everyone posted.

I'm surprised California hasn't already ordered any car over 10 years old or of American manfacture to be destroyed already. I swear, on my last visit to L.A., I don't think I saw 1 American car out of every 10 on the road. Import heaven.

I could go on at great length about why this is, but mainly it's because Detroit Iron has no resale here. You'd be foolish to buy it new. (vettes and duramax trucks excluded as always).

Only working class people drive them because they are the cheapest cars. So basically the Mexicans are the most patriotic bunch here as they are loyal to ford and chevy.

People buy European here, or Japanese cars for long commutes.

California always had more imports even in the 60's.

California has a lot of different immigrant cultures. Asians always claim that they fit in the jap cars better.

Funny thing is that Buick is big in China- lucky for GM too, cause nobody in Ca would be caught dead in a cobalt/cruze/impala or any other fwd pos they make.

Yep, and most of the county vehicles are hybrids. Last week a CHP was giving one a ticket on the car pool lane. The dude was alone.
