Power window on passenger side
Hi gents,
I noticed today that the passenger side window will not go down even from the driver side. I have a 96. The driver side window works just fine. With the car in accessory mode, I don't even hear the motor when engaged. Since the driver side works, it can't be the fuse since there is only one for both. My guess it can't be the switch either since it does not work from the driver side. Any ideas? Pete - looks like I need to visit Harbor Freight to pick up some of those plastic tools used to remove the inside door panel. When you pulled off my driver side last year, which worked the best - the plastic or the metal removal tools? |

Motor Not fun to replace either. You might as well figure on putting a whole new regulator in. I had a machinist try to put a new motor on my old regulator to no avail. It's riveted to the regulator and getting it off is no problem. Putting a new one on is the bitch. I bought a new regulator and motor assembly from Midamerica for $279.00. You will have to get deep inside to test the motor to see if it's the problem. Removing the metal plate inside the door panel to get at the motor isn't too tough but it's no walk in the park either. My window whistles now because I didn't get something lined up right. Scratched the hell out of my window tint too. Also, the glass has to come out to replace the motor no matter what you do.
This will give you an idea what your up against: Here is a video that was interesting and a link to the part: http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette-3-30-8514.html Here are the instructions to replace it: http://content.mamotorworks.com/pdf/604604.pdf Last edited by NEVRL8T; 03-14-2011 at 7:03am. |

I'm hoping that its simple like a wire came off or even a lose connection, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll have a better idea once I get the door panel off.

UPDATE:
This morning I decided to drive the vette to work because there were only 2 in our carpool and it was my turn to drive. Get in the car and I press the button on the driver side to lower the passenger side window and it now works. WTF? I hate issues like this because you can't really determine what is wrong until it fails completely. My best guess now would be a lose connection or corrosion on a connector. |

I got a cool little tool at Harbor Freight that fit under the fittings on the door. It was a squeeze type tool that you slipped under the fasteners. When you squeezed the handles together it popped out the fastener, which did not put any stress on the door panel. It only took about five seconds a fastener. I think it was about $10. I also purchased the other pry tools.

Here it is. I put it between the panel and the door frame and squeezed. The fasteners popped right out.
Part number on it is 67399. ] |

I have one of those trim pliers I got with a lot of tools I bought from a retiring mechanic. You still end up needed a couple of new plastic button panel connectors- seems like one or two always get screwed up (one time use).

Thanks for the pics. That helps. Pete already had the plastic ones in that pic that I saw at his home.
