Default 2008 Tahoe folding mirror

My wife's Tahoe driver's side mirror stopped folding in. I can hear the motor run, but it doesn't move. Before I dig in to it, any synchronization procedure like the older ones had?

Fold them in manually, leave them in and run the power in & out. Anything?

The passenger side on mine no longer retracts but when I push it in manually it will resume the normal position when the switch is pressed...haven't figured out how to fix it and don't want to disassemble it...I'm concentrating on replacing all of the outside door handles on mine.

One of the mirrors broke off from my motorcycle one day when the kickstand sank into the sand and it fell over.

So it would match, I just took off the other one.. (other'n) [/seasix]

The way I looked at it...

I wanna see where I am going.. and who cares where I have already been?

I have the same issue intermittently with my 2500HD. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The motors both run, but only the passenger side moves. I am thinking some kind of gear (plastic more than likely) has broken or teeth have been sheared. It's too cold to mess with. Should be back in the 60s this weekend.

Just a thought, if you tried to adjust it when it was frozen you probably did break a few teeth off of the plastic gears.

Or could it still be frozen?

We're pretty sure that someone manually moved it and broke it. I am going to take the plastic gear out and see if I can get a replacement. Why they don't use brass anymore really irritates me. Planned obsolescence / repairs.

My 2011 F250 had apparently sheared off a few teeth from the gear. The service folks said nothing inside was serviceable. The whole mirror would have to be replaced. That's one of the folding/telescoping/heated units - $1200 for the part. Nylon gear probably worth $2 was the culprit, but the unit is allegedly sealed.

I will have a gear made before I'll spend $1200.00 on it.

The good news was that after the service tech tried to reset the timing (unsuccessfully), it just started working again.
