Southwest does make an announcement that everyone must have their own boarding pass, and that if folks are traveling together, someone in the A-group can go back to the B-group or C-group, but B- or C-groups can't cut in to the A-group. That's their policy.

Asshat could have boarded between A-group and B-group, with his kids, as that is the policy.

Egg zactly. I've flown SW many times and that's exactly how it works. The boarding for people with small children comes after the A-list and before the A-group, but six and nine are not "small children" and therefore he should have just got them a good boarding group by paying the $25 each or winged it and boarded with them as A-36 or B-14 or whatever. But no, he insists on getting a perk that he doesn't deserve, because entitled.

He gave out her name and location. Next time you get pissed because someone makes you follow the rules, just tweet your displeasure with the company, not the individual.

I agree with his decision to delete, under threat of not being able to fly, his tweet.

Of course, I would have immediately redone it the minute that the plane was airborne so that upon landing all I would have to do is to post it - along with the history of being forced to deplane.

I'm not saying the guy is in the wrong for wanting special treatment, but he just made tweet complaining about the customer service. Had the witch gate attendant let it go we wouldn't even be hearing about this incident. I never said that. I just wanted to point out that the entire incident was precipitated by a person who was demanding a perk that he did not deserve. Anything that happened after that was a direct result of him being a jackass. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. As an A-List SW member, he'd flown plenty of times and therefore knew that he was asking for something he didn't actually deserve, and was just trying to save a few $$$. Meantime, instead of helping other people she had to endure his tantrum. Finally put in his rightful place, he called her out by name on her employer's Twitter feed.

So he was a jackass twice over. She retaliated. Was it an overreaction? Probably, but at least now her employer knows the story instead of just his little petty customer service complaint.

Yup. She could have rightfully gotten in trouble if she gave into that guy's demands. Other passengers would have a valid complaint. He did not have a valid complaint and the thing is, he almost assuredly knew it. He's just one of those people who is teaching his kids that it's fine to be entitled and to demand service that wasn't part of the original agreement. He's the type of customer that we fire, if you know what I mean. One of his kids was wanting to call the police, no doubt so they could arrest their poor daddy's tormentor.

In today's day and age flying sucks badly enough without having to suffer fools like him.

I see your point; he was a rude SOB, but she abused her position by claiming it to be a threat-to-safety.

These types that hold some power... and abuse it, should be punished.

Eh, he pushed the envelope, she showed him what happens when you push it all the way off the table. There's a time and place to get all up in the gate attendant's face. That wasn't the time or place. Sure, if your flight was cancelled and you absolutely need to get someplace, that's the time to ask them to bend a rule or two. But for a near-meaningless seating upgrade? She was probably already having a crappy day dealing with assholes like him, and he may have pressed just the right buttons. Some people have that talent.

In my experience the SW staff are cheerful and helpful for the most part. I've never had problem one with them, with the exception that they wouldn't rebook us for no charge when we had to return a few days early from a trip to CA because of the Joplin tornado. That kinda pissed us off but it was corporate that did that, we didn't argue with someone at the gate.

When you lodge a complaint against a person, by name, on the corporate level you know that employee will hear about it and likely will take a hit in their career. It's a serious thing to mess with somebody's livelihood over something that was really just you getting butthurt over not getting your way.
