Those guys on American Pickers go ape-shit on old bikes and accessories. They might offer you some substantial cash for that old stuff. Just saying.

When we moved we sold our 2 10 speeds with lever shifters from 1975.....had head and tail lights with the generator that leaned against the back tire.....should have kept them but .....
I think they were H&R Sports |

Besides baseball cards we used balloons with just the right amount of air to contact the spokes. They didn't last long but sounded way better than the cards. I also had one of the generators that ran off the tire on my first 10 speed and of course ape hanger handle bars and banana see on an old 20" frame I turn into a Schwinn StingRay clone complete with racing slick rear time.
I didn't hang on to the bikes I had growing up but still have this, bought new in ~1972. Peugeot PX-10. It was pretty much state of the art then and these bikes were rode in the Tour de France back then. This photo is several years old but it's still pretty much in good shape save for a small frame issue, old tires and cables. Paint and decals are very good. That's the original chain wheel (before they called them cassettes) next to the back tire. I needed taller gears to make it up the hills as I got older. Haven't ridden it since the 90s. "Brakes are good... Tires are fair." If you know, you know. |

It was a 10-speed, I think the brand was "Tour de France," it was orange-ish in color. I got my permit and license the next year and I forgot all about bicycles, haha. |

Yup - everybody wanted an "English racer" - with that scrotum-crushing seat and the pencil thin tires and a gazillion speeds and the handlebars we would "flip up" so you could ride upright instead of with your azz in the air like a liberal Congressional staffer in a senate hearing room.
Then you would take one off road and those skinny tires would sink in the dirt and you'd herniate yourself getting the bike to move. An - to be young again! |

I'm sure you know those bring some pretty good bucks when restored. I had a black Schwinn Corvette or maybe American... but Corvette makes a better story... "My first Corvette was...". It looked a lot like the black bike in the front of your pic but without the light and rack. It did have a 2 speed "kickback" hub, chrome wheels and fenders. To shift, you would back peddle slightly with out engaging the coaster brake, then peddle in the new gear. It worked great but I abandoned it when the Stingrays became popular. Built my own from an old 20" that was my first bike. Later I had a Schwinn Supersport 10 speed but sold it to help finance the Peugeot PX-10 in my earlier post. |
