A Salute to one of the last of a vanishing breed......
A REAL West Texas Cowboy, and a gentleman of the highest order. I've had the privilege of meeting him....and it was a privilege. Happy Trails Jimmy Bowen. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Duly noted!
Despite modern ethics, quite a few of us still appreciate 'The Cowboy Way'. These giants are thinning fast and are a connection with our past where men were known by their word and handshake. Vision and guts made what we enjoy today. Survivors write the history and it's up to us to make sure they get it right. |

That is an interesting story and a shame for the world to loose someone like that. I can sit for hours listening to people talk about the 'old' days. When one passes on it's lost. I have a hunting buddy that this guy reminds me of. He is a rancher, he's very honest but very firm. He is also one of those guys you just don't phuk with and he seems to know everyone in SE Oklahoma.

True story about Jimmy Bowen....
About 10 years ago, a gasoline tanker overturned on the highway out near his ranch and spilled a huge puddle of gasoline on the road. The driver was badly injured and unconscious. Jimmy Bowen was near 70 years old at the time, and walked through a gasoline spill to get the driver out of the truck and to safety. That's the caliber of man he was. Sometimes him and the ranch hands would show up at the Edge of Texas restaurant, boots and spurs still on, and just walk around talking to the patrons, shaking hands etc. Like stepping back in time. Everyone there gets treated like family. |
