Default City code enforcement tried to fornicate me in my rectum

Can’t get away with anything in the small township I live in.
I think permits are required just for permission to mow the lawn.

The letter referenced not acquiring a permit for my new fence and threatened a response within 10 days or legal action would follow.
The problem is that my fence was installed 14 years ago, and I did have permits for the job.
The township municipal building is only 5 minutes from my house, so I went over there with the permits that I had kept filed away.

The code enforcement guy came out and told me that when he drove by my house, he thought he saw a new section of fence.
I told him nope; all that fence is from 14 years ago from the original permit.

And that was the end of that.
He was extremely nice and courteous and the complete opposite of what I would have experienced in a big city.

I guess they have nothing else to do during the day except drive around and look for homeowner criminals.

My little burg required a one time monitored alarm permit when I bought my house. Years later, I had a couple of false alarms, as I neglected to lock my front door, and the wind blew it open. So I get a nastygram from the city, you have to apply for and pay for an annual alarm permit.

So I trotted down and brought my over decade ago alarm permit, showing no expiration date. "Well, we changed the city code regarding alarm permits since then, and we don't have your original alarm permit application."

Hey, that's nice! Since ex post facto laws are explicitly unconstitutional, i.e., you can't change the agreement after the fact, whatever code change you made doesn't have anything to do with me, but thanks for your inquiry.

They felt they had the right to demand I pay for a new permit anyway. I told them to go ahead and sue me if they think I owe them money, but if they sue, I'm countersuing for injury due to frivolous lawsuit, my attorney's fees, and other damages. Well, they didn't sue, but I did get invoices from the city every few months, for a year or two, and then I got a demand letter from a collection agency. I followed the required rebuttal process, sent a copy of my alarm permit with a note explaining that the city was trying to collect in error.

And that was it, never heard from anyone about it again. I think they wanted $ 15 or 20.

So what are you doing with all those loose doorknobs?

Never mind, I don't want to know.

I wonder if we were supposed to get permits for new fences, roofs, etc. after Hurricane Ike?

They're just looking for properties where they can relocate some homeless camps

Sometimes after a hurricane the building department will wave permits for some repairs.

You should go ahead and build a NEW fence, then if they say anything, you call and complain....didn't we just handle this last time? Stop harassing me.

I got a notice a few years back for having "inoperable vehicles" in my drive. I called codes, and they said on a drive by that they noticed two vehicles under car covers, two in front of them, and one in the front yard. I informed them that yes, I had five cars on the property, and that if we were home there was a total of seven. I also informed them that if they had walked up into the drive they would have seen that every one had a current tag and I would be happy to drive each one to the office to show none were inoperable. She said no, that wasn't necessary, they just noticed them sitting there. I explained I couldn't drive them all at the same time but if they paid attention, I did rotate them out every couple of months.
