[Guns] Anyone Have one of These?
If so, would it be a good carry gun? Thinking about asking Texas to permit me (sad pun intended) to exercise my constitutional right to CCW.

Have you fired one? Does it fit your hand well?

No and I don't know. Obviously I'd prefer to at least hold one first. I've got big hands, but I don't think I could CCW a 1911, for example. I like built in laser, really. Seems like that would be helpful in a stressful situation.

Yes, in .40 cal. It's ok, but I prefer a Springfield XD Mod 2. IMO, you don't want a thumb safety, and the capacity in the Springer is doubled. Just my .02.

No, but is easily fitted to the picatinny rail on the Mod 2. Lasers are really for intimidation purpose in my opinion, and not so much needed. May be plenty of folks that disagree though. The Springer is more expensive than the Smith, but I don't think there is much of a comparison.

One thing to keep in mind, not only does a laser pinpoint where the weapon is aimed, it also pinpoints your exact location too.

Too small for my taste. I’d skip the laser.
I carry a Beretta 92G Centurion (commander size). 18+1 of 9mm |

I bought my wife an M&P Shield in 9mm, but it's one generation older than this one. She carries it every day. Shot it just last week. They are very nice and inexpensive and make a good CCW. A friend of ours got his girlfriend the "EZ" model in .380. My sister-in-law has one too. Super easy to work the slide, it's a good choice for people with limited hand strength or arthritis.
You can't really go wrong getting one of these, Bill. They have all the features you'd want to see in a CCW. My wife is deadly accurate with hers. I have only shot it a few times, but it's quite comfy in my larger hands. Quite easy to take down and clean and reassemble. If you find yourself struggling with it, you're doing it wrong. Also, none of our pistols have lasers. I do have a light on my Glock 21. |

You'd be better off with decent night sights, and even then as Jeff pointed out, those can be detrimental as well (giving away your location). Front sight, learn how to effectively double tap (trigger control etc) shoot center mass (biggest target) etc... |

I carry a Sig P938 as a pocket gun. With the extended Mag it's 7 rounds. No laser. Thumb saftey so it feels good in my hand. Try a few small 9MM out and find what feels right for you.

I have the M&P 2.0 full-size in 9mm. It’s a very accurate firearm (more so than my Glocks, due to the metal frame-less frame flex). The 2.0 greatly enhanced the trigger over the earlier generation. The grips are very ergonomic and the rough texture yields a great grip. That being said, the rough texture of the grip is abrasive against skin so I rarely carry mine concealed unless I have a shirt between the gun and my side. Also, it will tear up nylon shirts such as the Columbia and REI casual button down shirts.
Like others have said, ditch the laser. I don’t like lasers on handguns, but I do like weapons lights. It’s a good gun, but I still prefer my Glocks. P.S. My next two CCW guns will the the Glock 43x and the Glock 48. |

We did night shoots on the pistol range at the gun club. Wednesday nights were pistol night and whichever one had the least amount of moonlight was the night shoot evening. Your "friends" would set up five targets anywhere from literally two yards to fifteen yards away. The targets were 12" wide and 18" tall. Each was on a stand. There were three brown cardboard "shoot" targets and two white cardboard "no shoot" targets. You would be facing away behind a large sheet of cardboard so you couldn't see how they were set up. If you wanted, the range officer would shine a flashlight on the ground so you could verify your grip and sight plane. Then after the range was verified clear, the cardboard was pulled back, the time beeped and you placed at least two shots in each of the shoot targets and none in the no shoot targets. ( for five shot revolvers, one shot target would be shot at once ) I used my Ruger GP-100 ( 6" full under lug barrel in .357 Mag) and my 1911-A1 in .45 acp. After a few times shooting, no light was needed to verify grip and shots were all centered. Practice, practice, practice |

For 9mm carry I have a Glock 19. I find for me nothing else I have tried is as easy to shoot quickly and under stress. I cannot slow fire bullseyes worth a damn with it but I am deadly if I shoot it instinctively.
I have handled and shot a Shield in 45ACP quite a bit as my cousin owns one... it functioned fine and was easy enough to shoot but did not have the correct "feel" for me. |

Never shot a Shield, my CCW is either a Kimber 1911 Ultra Carry 2 Tactical or a 20 year old Taurus .357 that has been through hell and back and still is as reliable as can be.
NO lasers, but the 1911 has night sights that are awesome. Considering a Kimber Micro 9 in a month or so, and I've actually thought about getting the built in laser, but I think it's probably more of a gimmick than anything- fun to play with at the range, but not practical day-to-day. |
