At least install a winch so they can drag him up the stairs.

I've been doing dumbbell rows as my main upper back exercise. It seems to work well enough, but I feel I need to keep the weight really light. If I had that machine, I would feel comfortable putting some more weight on the pull-down cable, but keep things light on the seated rows.

There is a little kitchenette in one corner.

Common here for basement renos to be set up as small apartments.

A lot of houses we weren't interested in for that reason. But this one they left mostly open except for that one corner, and there was lots of room for my gym so we got it anyway.

I would estimate that 80% of houses on the market have basements set up as apartments. It's the only way a lot of people can afford a house; by renting out the basement.

Know a dood, could be family, also could not be, has a three-story in nyc borough, he lives on floors one and two, rents third, AND has basement rented.

You are not allowed, per nyc in his hood, to rent the basement, but 100% of owners on street do so.

His two rents cover 65% of his mortgage payment.

Does the basement have its own separate entry? I don't think I'd want to rent out something unless it was totally separate, like a garage apartment. And how do they handle parking at least one extra car for the renter?

My house does not have a separate entrance. The inspector asked if we'd be renting it out for that reason; because it's illegal if there isn't one.

The owner told us he would have got more money for the house and sold it faster if it did.

As for parking, some neighborhoods are nuts with cars parked everywhere and on lawns because so many people are living in each house. It's a real problem.

Pave the front lawn then green outdoor carpet. That's a South Boston (Massachusetts) must have.

Where would anyone stay? The entire basements full already.

And when the OPs working out, you’d want to watch?

Obviously Flex-o isn't going to rent his basement out, but he said it was common for others in his neighborhood to do, so I asked how OTHERS handled the overflow parking.

As indicated thusly:

Enough to pay for adding the required entrance?

Some parts of California have been like that for years. It's not unusual to have 5 or 6 wetback families all living together in one house, with their landscaper trucks parked all over the lawn.

That's how my wife and I ended up with "Fatwood Fitness Center". Kids were grown and gone by 2016. We had a Y membership, where our usage had declined to just us using their treadmills when the weather sucked outside. Then the Y decided they were going to close if a single flake of snow was seen anywhere in the surrounding area, so we quit and bought our own treadmill.

Joined a weightlifting gym in late 2019, and then the pandemic hit. That ended that, and I have my home gym in my garage. I'm never going back.
