Have you looked at the Kahr P380? What a solid well built gun. Just understand due to the tight tollerances, it really only likes the pointier ammo, such as the Hornaday Extreme Defense for CC, and any of the pointed practice ammo.

LCP is a great choice. Light recoil, double action only pull and you can carry it in your pocket. I always have mine on me either for primary, or back up carry. 380 is a potent little round.

Regardless of what each of us likes, suggesting what his wife should carry is fairly useless. We all have our opinions on size, weight, caliber, etc, but ultimately she needs to pick what is comfortable for her to carry, shoot well, and shoot accurately.

I know a few women who swear by their Glock .40's (can't recall the model #) and some swear by revolvers, and others go with the 1911.

I suggest you just give her a gift card to include:
1. A range day
2. Some ammo of various calibers to take to the range. (9mm, .38, .380, .40, .45)
3. Rental of various guns of each caliber
4. A 'coupon' for a semi-auto or revolver of her choice (price TBD by you).

This way, you get great time with her, a chance for HER to pick the caliber and firearm SHE likes.

Even if she picks a .22, I'd rather my wife carry that than be unarmed.

My wife loves her M&P Shield in 9mm. Before I got her that one, she had a Ruger LCR .38 (5 shot revolver) and I have since lent that to a friend so he has at least some sort of home protection, such as it is.

The M&P is really fun to shoot too, and isn't snappy at all even with +P ammo.

I really like my G26, it conceals well and has plenty of firepower. I put a stainless steel recoil spring assembly and Meprolight orange/green night sights on it and a CompTac IWB holster. It's my winter carry gun, and when I have light clothing on I carry a Sig P938 in a neoprene/leather soft holster.

The Springfield XD sub-compact 9mm (XD9-SC) is one super smooth shooting handgun (not to mention highly accurate). The females that have shot mine loved it. Has a 10 round magazine.

But my suggestion is to take her to a rental range and let her try various models/manufacturers. Women love making important decisions for themselves, as I'm sure you well know.

Keep in mind that recoil depends mainly on the ammo, not the gun. Just because she manages a small gun well using target ammo doesn't mean she can do that using self-defense ammo. It will cause the gun to become a whole different animal.

the PPK is a great carry gun; though heavy when compared to more modern carry weapons.

I alomst bought the PPK; though the Ruger LCP won out.

Getting one of those for the Mrs!

Just piked up a S&W 642 for the Mrs. and having the trigger worked a little. She does like the idea of point and pull

This is why I'm thinking about changing from the M&P Shield 40 to the 9mm.

The Shield is really comfortable, but the 40 is just too snappy. It's difficult to keep consistent placement of my finger on the trigger for follow-up shots.

Heck, I thought my Dad's Glock 23 was too snappy, and it's a fairly large and heavy gun. Not a big fan of the .40 cal round. I'd rather shoot .357.

I have no issues with the .40 in my Glock 35...but that Shield just doesn't work with it for me.
