Is anyone a member of the Prostitution Party?

That's my made-up name for people, like me, who believe that having any one political party in control of both the legislative and executive branches is bad. However good their motives, both Democrats or Republicans seem to make bad laws and policy when they have such unbridled control. Part of this comes from, I believe, both parties being out of touch with the average American, so the gridlock that comes from split power is neccessary to prevent their excesses.

I used to vote my "other" conscience--the person most qualified got my vote. Now, my conscience makes me vote Republican for president if Congress is controlled by Democrats, and vice versa. Anyone else share this pragmatic philosophy?

I voted for the Democratic candidate for Senate and House in South Carolina in 2008 since Lindsey Graham and Bob Inglis both voted for the moronic stimulus and bailouts. Also Lindsey Graham is a closeted hypocrite and all around douche-bag.

Otherwise, NO. One major party more closely aligns with me than the other, so they get my votes by default typically.

Local elections are different of course. The Democrats in the south in local politics typically are further to the right than even the so-called "blue-dog" Democrats in Congress. Godless Communism doesn't exactly fly here, so Pelosi and Obama types typically never get elected even from the Democratic party on the local level.

the best thing I ever heard Lindsey Graham say was "only in America can you make that much money crying" when someone asked him what he thought of Beck. I try to vote for those that will help me & mine. I don't consider an assault on medicare & social security & extending the retirement age while attacking unions to be in my best interest as a middle class American. the party shouldn't matter, but of course it actually does.

You can call it pork or whatever you want, but the job of my representatives in congress is to bring my federal tax dollars home. I will vote for whoever can do the best job in this area, or keep the tax dollars from leaving here in the first place. Party means nothing.
