Default Its going to take more than just the $400K price to get a new Ford GT

You have to apply for one and meet Ford's requirements

Ford GT application process to favor previous owners

Daytona Beach, Florida — Justin Verlander keeps calling about it. Jay Leno and other celebrities keep asking, too. Some would-be owners have even handed Ford Motor Co. executives blank checks and told them to write in a number.

But everyone who wants one of Ford’s new GT supercars has been told the same thing: apply online.

The Dearborn automaker will implement a rigorous vetting process for the 250 GTs that will be available at the end of this year. Executives say the online applications, which will go live sometime in February, are meant to reward longtime Ford customers and ensure the cars will be used on the road — and not kept in a museum or marked up and re-sold to the highest bidder.

“There’s a loyal following to the car,” Raj Nair, Ford’s product chief, said in an interview. “We want to prioritize people who are going to care about the car, keep the car and drive the car.”

Applicants will have to sign a legal document saying they won’t sell the vehicle for a certain amount of time to help prevent buyers from flipping them quickly for a profit. The application will be lengthy and ask a number of questions, like how many Ford vehicles a person has previously owned, how active they are on social media, and how often they plan to drive it.

“It will try to understand what your relationship with Ford is,” Nair said.

Executives haven’t said for how long they’ll produce the supercars, but it’s expected that demand will be so high that, many who want one won’t be able to get one.

I guess this process will also keep the dealers from putting obscene mark ups on them

The Ford GT does nothing for me. The body style is similar to the original back in the 60s. If I wanted something retro, I'd buy a 60s Ford GT. But I really don't want a 60s Ford GT.

It's a Ford, not a Ferrari.
Talk about trying to play with the big boys.......

It's got super car looks and a super car price.....with a shitty V6 in it making shit for power, and even worse exhaust note. WTF

This car NEEDS a twin turbo V8 or supercharged V8, or a twin turbo supercharged V8..enough of this hippy shit, nobody is buying a $450k car thinking about fuel economy.

Kind of pisses me off they are making it so exclusive, F them.

I'm a big fan of the last one though, but the prices on those now are absurd.

I'm seeing ~630hp, where are you coming up with 720? at 630hp we're talking what 550-575 to the rollers, and less than 500ftlbs of torque? Pretty tame these days, and pretty miserable torque considering a turbo car. What that doesn't discuss is the turbo lag, which is horrible in their current fleet of ecoboost motors.

Their current 3.5L claims more power than the 5.0L v8 in their F150's, drive them back to back and it's a clear reminder there's no replacement for displacement. Especially if you try and over take somebody quickly.

My bad, I went down the rabbit hole after the source of a quote and turns out "according to Ford" means "shit I made up"... it's being regurgitated various places online as fact, "according to Ford"...

Yep, I'd take the S/C V8 over the ecocrap6 any day, plus the styling looks better IMO.

Keep in mind that the ones you see going for the big bucks at the televised auctions usually have ridiculously low odometer readings. I would imagine ones that have been driven go for much less. Still not a bad investment for a new car, though. Much more could have been made with other non-car investments, I think.

On the GT color means a lot too. Heritage Editions ask way more money than any other color...

I just had the dis-pleasure of watching the race versions at the 24 hours of Daytona.

That is without a doubt the worst sounding car that has ever been made. It sounds quite literally like someone in a port-a-shitter after a case of beer and a bag of White Castle.

You could hear the damned things defecating their way around the track from outside the grounds (when they were running).

But man were they fast.... actually no, no they weren't... first one was only 45 laps down at the finish...

Honestly, that's really a shame. It is a great looking car.

IMO, the tail end of that thing is so bad, the Stingray parks next to it so its ass looks better.
