The major controls on ice flow are temperature and shear stress. Glen's equation describing the response of ice to stress is:

I = A × z3
where I = strain rate, A = constant depending on temperature, z = shear stress.

You need to read and understand the context of "ice flow." I refer you to your own link. <stage whisper> it doesn't mean what you think it means </stage whisper>

I was thinking I would just put a bowl of water in there and put the gate over the doorway and let him stay there during the day if no one's home. There's a skylight over the shower so it's alway lit up, and if he has an accident, the tile is non-porous, so I can just rinse it away.

Thoughts?
That sounds like a great idea. If he drops a deuce in the shower, Sanchez can explain how to dispose of it.

You assume I meant the common meaning. Chef lives in the DFW area, a landlocked place if there ever was one. He'd have a hard time doing the traditional ice floe thing, even if he wanted to, based on his geography.

Well, that was a pretty impressive grasp at the proverbial straws. I'll give you a C- based entirely on that effort.

Sacrificial throw rugs. Buy on the cheap. Scotchguard and use them to cover the new floor, spot clean, wash, or toss away if they get too soiled. That allows your doggy to still be a part of the family and house and you can move it all into the garage when guests come over. Just a thought.

I had a female GS that lost bladder control. I loved her too much to get rid of her and material things can be repaired or replaced.

If you've never crated him before, he might be devastated if you started now. But it sounds as tho' that isn't even an option in your mind.

Doggy diapers if you're not willing to put down plastic. I think you are asking the impossible if you want to put down new floors and want to let the dog roam as before.

So, Chuck has spent the last few nights in the shower, or when no one's home. Big bowl of water, chew toy.

Last few nights, he was snoozing away. I didn't have to get up once. In the morning I let him out...he went to do his business. I noticed he pee'd in the shower. Hot water on...15 seconds later...we're done. The other day, a bigger "gift." Same deal. Cleaned up with a plastic bag, the rest down the drain.

Floors are high and dry. Chuck's happy. I'm THRILLED!!

I keep thinking about this thread and thought I didn't have any answers. But I have arrived t the conclusion that you could probably introduce a crate and he'd love it.

Dogs like enclosed spaces. The key is always give rewards when in the crate. Feed him in there. My dogs LOVE the crate.

As long as its big enough. The tub works well too but he might get hurt in there. Either way, he sits in his pee.

Crate would be more comfortable. When my dogs are sick or some crap(which seems like all the time) I just put old towels in there. They wash right up.

Damn dogs. Sometimes my heart can't take it.

Was the bigger "gift" too big to flush?

The thing to understand is that Chef's shower is large enough to house and extended Vietnamese family.

Let's not make assumptions. He is NOT "sitting in his pee." It's a pretty large shower and there's plenty of room for him to stretch out without running into anything. He gets up and walks just fine, so I think that given what he is used to, this is the best solution.

You know...I didn't think about it. I was more focused on getting it (and the smell) out of there.

Never been to IC's place but when we redid our master bath last year, we put in a shower that you could probably have 3-4 people in at the same time (not that we have). It also has a built in seat that a small to medium dog could sit on if it didn't want to be on the floor. We love it

So glad to here this is working out for Chuck. Sounds like an easy to live with solution

She's a Maltese and adorable. Despite her diminutive size, she doesn't hesitate to "attack" neighbor dogs on her sidewalk. Of course, they just look at her with amusement.

Yeah, I was going to point out that the shower would hold a bedroom suite as long as you didn't need a king sized bed.
