Default RV. (no not an Amazon kidnapper) need advice...

A neighbor has had since new, this 2005 Safari 40PBT Coach (diesel 350hp) Urban Oasis. They traveled for years across the country but they are now older and having health issues. They have decided it's time to sell.

Can anyone offer advice, experience, or share some tips on this type of motorhome?

Ask Areo about his parents RV adventure several years ago.

I wouldn't own one of those things if it was free.

Are you thinking of buying it for yourself? Could be a good deal since you/they know its history.

Disposable items.

Have you seen the sales lots of RV dealers?

Why would someone buy an old one over a new one?

Price-wise, it’s deprecated out. If you’ve had one in the past you already know that something’s always broke, or about to break; doesn’t matter if it’s a new or old coach.

We do poke through the lots every now and then....

Have you seen the prices of a new RV? This one WAS over 200k new! And that was in '05!

I spoke to my neighbor two years ago. He wanted 73k, a bit too much still for us. I'm hoping he has lowered his number, but don't know yet....

The coach has been dealer serviced with all records since new. Can't remember the mileage?

We want to see some parts of the western/central US States, and want to bring our dogs.

I guess seeing the damn thing just sitting sparks my interest.

We owned one years ago when the kids were young. We saw a lot of the country with them and made great memories. We bought it new. I wouldn't buy a 20 year old motorhome no matter the price.

You can buy a lot of nice hotel rooms for 73k.

No sink costs.

They are like time shares on wheels.

If you're serious about it, I would definitely look into parts availability. My.02¢

We bought a brand new custom ordered travel trailer and a high quality brand, Lance. And after waiting 8 months to get it, and after a year and a half of use we determined that it was a POS in waiting and eventually going to cause a lot of headaches. Sold and good riddance.

Next year, my wife and I are going to travel the USA but not in our cars. Will go to all the nice places to visit but would not want to live there.

Will do a combo of rent and fly. If the rental breaks down, I'll just call for another one.

There you guy. Rent one.

I have two RV parks nearby, see quite a few rentals. Pay your fee, walk away.

I have owned 4 RV's in my life (so far). Two motor homes, one pull behind toy hauler and one pull behind RV. The biggest problem with ALL RV's is roof leaks and delamination of the side walls. You will hear "roof just re-painted" or "roof repaired no leaks". Stay the fuk away from these. The delamination is very noticeable if you see any waviness in the outside walls.

Looks like the one you are looking at is diesel pusher type. That is the best driveline IMO for a Class A RV.

The down side to any motor coach RV is that, like any motorized vehicle, if you dont use it on a regular basis and let it sit....shit starts going bad. Plus, like others here have said, is the cost worth it? You can buy a lot of plane tickets and hotel stays for that kinda cash....Oh and not to mention the price of fuel....

My FIL has a Holiday Rambler diesel pusher and it sits and sits and used only a few times a year. Seems like every time he needs to take it, there's something that needs to be fixed and he even has it under a shelter.

Like DAB said, you can buy a lot of hotel rooms for the price of a new or used RV.
