Default Banjo?

Anyone play a banjo? I strum & pick around on a guitar a little bit, but lately I've been enjoying banjo players in some bluegrass outdoor concerts we've gone to. So I'm thinking of buying one & looking at some Youtube instructional videos.

As with everything, prices are all over the place. Can I get something for $200-ish that won't be annoying & frustrating?

Also- Banjo jokes welcome.

One I heard: "I went into a store the other day & left my banjo in the car. When I came out, I found that someone had broken in & left 2 more."

And at a concert, the banjo guy said "Just a minute, my banjo is out of tune." Another band member: "How can you tell?"

OK, I'll admit the resemblance, but he has far more talent than I.

in reality... the kid actor (Billy Redden) in the movie couldn't play... nor was he capable of faking it.

Wish I had more time to learn. Both my Grandfathers were professional musicians.
Maternal played violin and was an open invite to play with the Boston Symphony.
Paternal played banjo, guitar and ukelele.

The pic of my Grandfather's banjo on the left is a late 1920s Fairbanks.

You can also see an early 40s Martin concert uke that was his from new.
