Of course at my advanced age, that’s no longer a concern…

My dentures wouldn’t handle all the heavy chewing.

Shocked you didn’t kill it, but for once expect your decision.

Was a small rattlesnake. Let it go. We have seen a couple of water moccasins since we moved here, they're quite unique and not confused with a rattler. Let those go too. If they don't bother me I don't bother them. Our house backs up to native Florida (City calls it a "greenway" with a creek in it, we call it a swamp) so snakes, lizards, bugs (except mosquitos, none of them amazingly), racoons, opossums, armadillos, turtles, rabbits, squirrels, and lots of other critters are around. They were here first.

Nice man. I've been chased by a few water moccasins while I was doing training in North Carolina. Didn't know I could move so fast in water hahaha.

LOL. Not sure I could outswim one, but on land they seem pretty sluggish, although I don't try to piss them off either.

Hate to disagree with you but pretty certain that was a Florida Cottonmouth;
Agkistrodon conanti. Look at pics and tell me what you think. The give away is the horizontal line at eye.

Herpetology has fascinated me since I was a kid. I could be wrong but….. worth it to troll you.

It could be a very young one. Once they reach any size they look nothing like that.

Correct. The juvenile are varying colors of brown and reddish brown and they turn almost black as adults so the distribution of markings is hard to see.

We had an abandoned rock quarry behind my house on the gunpowder river growing up. Herpetologist would come all the time and catch snakes and do research. They started letting me tag along. Mom wasn’t thrilled but Dad was ok with it. Why I became fascinated by them and respect them as an important part of our ecosystem.

Probably the only good thing that could come from a woman getting dentures….

And thankfully I still have my own pearly whites. Don’t try me Andrew.

Glad it didn’t bite you or the spousal unit.

They are nasty bites even if juvenile.

Any poisonous snake around my house meets the shotgun. Every other snake goes free. I won't risk my grandchildrens safety on being nice to a snake.

Yeah, I've read that bites from juveniles can even be worse. Hard to tell in the pic but it was curled up on an extension ladder leaned up against the side of the house. Didn't notice it until after I picked the ladder up, at which point it was a few inches from my leg. I freak out at spiders, but snakes don't bother me so I just walked over to a raised planting bed and dumped it there. Was maybe 10" long.

Well, we're inside city limits so shotgun could get me in trouble. They don't bother me, I don't bother them. They were here first.
