ITSF - my day at the Foosball International Championship

Since this tournament was within 2 hours drive; Yvonne and I decided to go.



IT WAS AWESOME !!!

I was undecided to play or not, mainly went to spectate. I was warned by a pro (Chase Pennell) that even in the lowest catagories... the players I would encounter would be seasoned competitors...

and he was right !

I decided to enter the "Amateur Singles" event.

My opponent was Russian, with a name of Andrei Trok, currently living in California. He had a jersey with Foosball club logo, a prep bag, spoke very matter of fact; he wrapped the handles, inspected the foosballs, checked to see if one of the table sides was better at being level than the other... and proceeded to kick my azz !!!

Game one 5 to zip. Game two 5 to 1; I didn't even get to play a third (2 out of 3 type play).

Old school with the linoleum playing field and cork balls allowed for actual talent. Far superior to hard plastic everything which tossed copious amounts of random luck into the equation. When the switch to these new tables was introduced I avoided them like the plague. Eventually there were no old tables left to play so I learned to control the new tables but it was never the same again. How do you compare playing against other skilled players verses dufai who know nothing more than to spin handles. Just sad.

Foosball was the 2nd most popular sport in Italy when I lived there. People would always gamble, argue, and fight over that game.
