Default Eric Hawkins police chief from Southfield, Mich
Eric Hawkins has more than 27 years of experience in law enforcement. Most recently, he led the Southfield, Mich. police department!

The city of Albany NY has a big problem, (actually many big problems) the protected species in that city has accelerated the amount of shooting and killing BIG TIME.

After a long search (over a year) the very liberal woman mayor has named a new chief, his name is Eric Hawkins and he previously led the Southfield, Mich. Department. AFAIC there were plenty of long time ranking officers in that department that could do that job, but this mayor has her reasons!

My question is what will this black chief do or not in this city when he takes over the head cop position. Anyone from the Southfield, Mich. area PLEASE jump in here!

Dallas did this last year bringing in a black female to be Chief from Detriot IIRC.

Happens in my state all the time. Any problems with the hint of a racial element at the PD, and the ad might as well read: Wanted - Police Chief. White males need not apply.

Five years now she is in her second term. She is very liberal so I'm prepared for the worst.

FWIW I was born and lived in Albany till I was 25, got married and moved into the big suburb that is right next door to Albany til I moved out here to the lake in 04 after I retired. Albany was getting bad (I still did a lot of work in the city) and has got much worse, so glad I moved out to the boonies.

I am not from Southfield and actually live on the other side of the state but I know a little about him. He is pretty sharp. He went to law school while being chief, so he can't be too stupid.

From what I have heard, I would tend to think of him as a police chief who happens to be black rather than a black police chief.

That would make him a good choice to actually do something about the violence in the Albany "community"

The outgoing DA in my county went to law school while he was a Sheriff's Deputy. He's dumber than a bag of hammers.

He's running for Superior Court Judge now. The Peter Principle on steroids.

The key difference is police chief vs sheriff's deputy. Totally different jobs. Police chiefs have a lot more responsibility.

Okay, but I was referring to your inference that going to law school made him a smart guy. The only thing that kept him from being Sheriff was he lost to a guy who ran a very dirty campaign. He came in second in the primary for judge and hopefully he won't get elected. He's old enough to have maxed out his pension and he can retire with a six figure salary. He can just go fishing and not to any more damage than he's already done.

No, that is not what I was referring to at all. I know plenty of stupid lawyers. What I was referring to was him being a successful chief of police while going to law school and graduating with honors.

Not to worry, Obozo's sons will still be protected and carry on their crime sprees as usual. Macon Ga is a prime example. Every time there is a shooting, robbery, rape, etc. there is a name involved like Daquan, Levonterious, Jaquille, Shaquon, or something else of that nature.

Not from Southfield, about 30 minutes from there. Never heard his name before which could be good or bad, either he has done a great job there or there are no issues there - I’d vote for closer to no issues, Southfield is a nice area
