I just remembered when we owned our gym In 2012 we bought a cheap Vizio 32". The guy who bought the gym from us in '13 went to 24 hour operation and that TV is still working. I bet most days it runs 24 hrs.

I was actually given a Panasonic plasma TV yesterday. 42 inch. It was made in 2005 and still works.

The crazy thing....new it had an MSRP of $3000.00 if I am reading this right...

Most electronic products like to operate at the same temperature so long time use is actually better for them than the heating and cooling of turning them off and on. They last longer.

I was thinking about that. Plus the room it is in is pretty well temperature controlled.

For flat screen LCD's personally I recommend Samsung.

We bought a Sony Triton 36" tv in 97. It lasted 20 years. In 2004 we bought a 65" Panasonic flat screen and moved the Sony to the bedroom. We used the 65" till this year then gave it to a family member who is still using. This we bought a 70" Samsung curved smart tv and a 50" Samsung smart tv for the bedroom and sound bars for both. We'll see how long they last.

My Folks first TV was a split chassis Philco in '53.......like early color sets, round tube with top/bottom trimmed off flat......

kept the cabinet for many decades....long about '93 it went in the estate sale....

I have the old Philco console radio they bought long about '36 from May Co. Cleveland Ohio.....it works fine, brought it up on a variac a couple years ago, allowing the caps to reform without bleeding out so much....

2 short waves and AM......

I agree.
When the 1080p Full HD TFT-LCD came out, they were pricey.
I bought a 40" Samsung in 2007, paid $2200.00. Similar Samsung new today is under $700. Its still working well.

I also have a 2005 Sanyo 13"unit in the kitchen that still works good.

With modern SS gear, you are correct, but the old stuff, not so much.....

i hated getting rid of my 36" and several 19" tvs they worked excellent, but these new tvs save so much room besides being 500% lighter

Did anyone ever bust up a large CRT from an old household size TV??

that glass in the corners is about 3" thick, and 2" thick on the edges of the screen, 1/2"+ on the screen and bell, neck is thin about about 1/8" the screens were not originally bonded, but had a piece of 'safety' glass in front with a gasket/seal around the edges.....nervous as a whore in church when working on one of them, let alone changing the CRT.......by the early 60's they were mostly all bonded/laminated with 1/4" safety plate glass just like a car windshield......enough that in '70 a drunk goat roper in DFW Tejas emptied his .38 into a set when the ropers were loosing one Sunday PM.....I pulled the ticket and changed the tube out.....tossed it off a concrete stairway out back of the apt. complex I was in...the noise woke up the entire complex....
