Default Modern flat screen TVs....how long do they last?

Old tube type tvs used to last forever. It wasn't unusual to get 25 years outta one of those suckers without any service. So how long do the current ones last?
What's been your experience with them?

My 42" Samsung Plasma was 16 years old and went through Super Storm Sandy.....east wall of home missing and open to the weather when I gave to to an old man that needed a TV.....still had a great picture but I was given a Samsung 55" smart TV by a friend that upgraded....it is 5 years old and looks great.
Now lol in our bedroom we have an old CRT that is 23 years old, never had a problem and still works.

I had several tube TV's die on me over the years. I've had exactly one small flat screen TV die. When they die it's typically just totally dead, probably just a power supply capacitor or something. And the one flat screen LCD that died on me was a pretty cheap 26" one.

the screens hold up well; it's the power supplies that generally craap-out.

They are really easy to replace in Samsungs.
The part isn't very expensive either.

Old tube TV's had a power transformer, and a hard on/off switch in there either in the remote receiver or on the front panel, and that power transformer was your surge protector, I use the 1:1 ratio of the same thing/size as they used to be, for a surge protector on my L/Rm TV and my computer in the LRm also.....

take a HELL of a shot/surge to knock out an old set.....but reliable?? hardly....I used to fix them in the 60's-70's by '80 they all gave up, Zenith being the last company to give up after a class action suit against Japan Inc......for dumping....I got outta the trade and went to engineering tech work.....that lasted 5 years...and at that point it was all sold south, so I GTFO on electronics for a living.....

I brought an old Zenith vertical/modular chassis with me 20 years ago, my own custom build, just like my cars....cabinet and all.....finally the CRT went out, and off to Shirk it shitty for a newer model.....then to Wallyworld for the first large flat screen now in the BRm......it runs fine with the back off as it's much cooler, the one in the LR is about 2 years old now ~48" only paid like 400 bux for it..... but I know full well these PWM/chopper power supplies are highly fragile to any electrickery coming down the line....

I've got a few Vizios. The oldest was a 37" unit that I bought refurbed about 15 years ago. It died about 3 or 4 years ago, when it ate a remote. Well, it still showed a picture, but couldn't see much on it. Remote still worked fine...

Usually lasts until someone rages and throws a game controller through it.

I had a Samsung 50" go out on me after 8 years. Had 26,000 hours on the set. There are special button combinations that you can check using the remote. The screen started to show a vertical line in one spot, then after few more weeks of use, additional lines started to show, so I bought a new LG 4k 56" to replace it.

My 50" Panasonic is 14 and still going strong. Only problems have been
with Comcrash, Satan's favourite son! One shitty cablebox after another....all had been 'refurbished'!

.....me too. I did call an electronics scrapper guy though to pick up 3 moniters and 5 old style TVs.... they all still worked fine.

So it sounds like the Samsung is the TV of choice around here? I had a HP large screen but the mother board crapped out, (made an interesting coffee table) so I'm a little leary of them.
