Default CLB part needed

I finally got the dreaded "service column lock" and my steering wheel is locked. Luckily the car was in the garage when it happened.

I've tried slamming the steering wheel back and forth, but it hasn't worked to free the column. To be honest, I didn't want to use to much force as I just don't want to break anything......however, I do feel like donkey punching the car! I have no idea what that means, just makes me feel better saying it.

I bought the CLB kit last year from member of the other forum, but it didn't come with below piece in the picture circled in red. Does anyone local have the cig adapter that I could borrow? I'll buy you lunch or a beer or sufin.

If your column lock motor isn't responding when you turn the key, it won't respond when you use that either. (that cord merely applies power to the lock motor same as turning they key does with everything connected).

I've seen many people over the years do exactly as you have...buy a CLB, but wait until it becomes problematic....But then it's too late.

Bottom line is you have to get the column physically unlocked before you can install the CLB. Keep working at it by yanking the wheel while turning the key on...and do so violently. Go apesh!t on it. You're trying to jar the motor, much like banging on a starter motor when they become unresponsive.

And if by luck you eventually succeed and get it to unlock, get that CLB plugged in before removing the key!

Thanks for the reply! I did end up getting it unlocked but I turned the car off and came inside to log in here and say "never mind" I got it unlocked. At that point I saw your post.

I didn't have to jerk the wheel. All I did was apply pressure by using my body weight to turn the wheel to the right while I inserted the key

I just walked out there again, and turned the car to acc and everything seems ok. No codes and the steering wheel turns. Going to do the CLB right now. Wish me luck.

When you get it installed, go buy a lotto ticket, it is your lucky day.

Good luck!

I couldn't donkey punch the car......you know.... cuz we have this sweet sweet love affair. It's been 5-6yrs and she has never let me down until now. Oh well..... I still have people all the time asking me if it's the new 2010.

I followed these instructions LS1Howto.com and got the CLB installed without issue in about 30-40mins. I still need to put the kick panel back on. I'm having a hard time getting the temperature sensor back in place. I started trying to figure it out last night but the wife yelled out in the garage asking me if I wanted to catch up on Desperate Housewives so I stopped for the evening
