Default Time to Rant and Vent a little bit....

I like to think I'm fairly laid back but I'm getting more than a little bit tired of the attitude some people have.

Over the years I've built up a fair selection of tools and camping gear. I was an adult leader with the Scouts for about 12 years and have also done a fair amount of DIY carpentry, plumbing, etc.

So, of course, people occasionally want to "borrow" tools, tents or a dining canopy once in a while.

I have no problem with that except people seem to to think they have no responsibility to maintain or even return what they "borrowed."

For example I have a 8' x 16' tent in my garage now that was returned wet and moldy with several seams ripped open.

I had someone else borrow a Ryobi 12" miter saw along with a two pack of new DeWalt blades since the original was getting dull. I wound up having to go get it and somehow the $50 package of new blades had vanished...

Another friend of a friend borrowed an air powered framing nailer and box of nails. Got it back with no case and the €~>{*|?\'a had run out of regular nails and broke apart strips of framing nails instead of buying more standard nails. If you have ever bought nails for a framing nailer you know they aren't cheap.

Right now another azzhat has a brand new dining canopy we have never had out of the box. The better half let him borrow it since he is one of her customers. He borrowed it about 18 months ago.......

The better half thinks I'm blowing it all out of proportion but I'm really getting tired of this crap.

One more that is a real classic.

A while back someone had borrowed the tent mentioned above and, of course, didn't return it. A month or so later we wind up with a free weekend and decided to go camping. I wind having to go pick it up (because no one can ever return a damn thing) only to find out she had let someone else borrow it from her.

I did lose my composure on that one and I believe someone learned a whole bunch of 4 letter words they had never heard before.

Rant off.

And no, don't even ask because you cannot borrow whatever the fuk you are going to ask for.

Thanks for the chance to rant.

"No, nothing personal, but I've been burnt so many times I've stopped lending my shit out"

Anybody who's owned a pickup truck learns this lesson early on! I was so sick of ....can you help me move this, or that. Or, can I borrow your truck for the weekend. I used to have a sign on my dash that said "NO, you can't borrow my truck, buy your own!" They stop asking after a while...

I tell even family, to not bother even asking to borrow a fuck, since I don't give one. I learned early never to lend things out unless I didn't want it anymore.

This one of a handful of major reasons I was divorced from my sons mom less than 2 years after we were married back in 83 and he was only 5 months old. We did remain friends since. She is one of 9 brothers and sisters and her dad is one of 12. her family is huge

I'm one of two from New Hampshire. The Hispanic culture around here basically says 'what's yours is theirs." It was not good.

Since that time, I have no friends, just acquaintance's and kept at arms length which would make anyone uncomfortable at borrowing sht.

You guys here and 'that other place" know more about me than anyone I have known around here for years

One of my best friends borrowed a 10X10 expandable cover and Fed up one of the legs. I wrote it off because of our relationship.

Take each person, think of how close tha person is to you and decide from there. I have no problem telling most of my acquaintances NO to borrowing my stuff.

I bought a canoe about 10 years ago. A friend of mine borrowed it about a week later. To this day, if I want to use it, I have to borrow it back.

I have a friend that has every tool imaginable for the most part. Anyway i am staining my deck this weekend and got carried away pressure washer and slightly damaged the wood on the hand rails. As a result i had to sand them so that my kids wouldn't get splinters as a result. I went to my friend and borrowed his orbital sander and sanded down the rails and a couple of the heavy stain spots that the pressure washer didn't blast away. I borrowed it last night and returned it this evening after i went to Home Depot and got him a new 10 pack of assorted grit pads (even though i only used 2 of his), as a way of saying thanks.

That is how i roll. That is how i was raised. I borrowed it and i returned it immediately after i was done.

You're the type of person I don't mind lending stuff. However, you are the exception to the rule. ( unfortunate more folks don't have those values )

I hear you. My neighbor borrowed my 24' ladder to replace a flood light last summer. 2 weeks later he still had it and hadn't replaced the flood light bulb. Not only that he had it sitting out in the elements under his deck. I just went over there and took it back. He never said a word to me about it after the fact.. That light was out for the longest..

BK aka 96LT4 can attest to how i am about stuff like that. A couple summers ago he let me borrow his Frontier to pick up some mulch from HD. He lives 5 miles away. I borrowed it in the morning and returned it in the afternoon. I would have returned it earlier but i took an hour to detail it for him as a way of saying thanks after i threw some gas in it. When i dropped it off he wasn't home but i got a pm from him on CF saying come borrow it whenever you want..lol
