The car's name is Bob. He's a Leo, and identifies as a good old fucking Male.

Looks like an old Buick, or Olds, or Chevy, with a '60's-'70's era USAF dood.

Fun fact: US military vehicles plated in Japan don't have to pay for any road tolls. When we visited Japan, we stayed on base and our host rented a little minivan to drive us around sightseeing in Japan, even though he had a car. The cost of the rental was less than the tolls we would have otherwise paid

Yep. 1939 Chevy. There is a '39 Chevy business coupe abandoned at Bodie ghost town in CA. In 1968 when I went there as a kid, it was green. Now, 55 years later, it is all brown with rust, with just traces of green paint. Sitting in exactly the same spot.

In 1988, I was in my 20's and looking for a 1930's coupe because eccentric.

One day shopping downtown (Oakland) I spotted an original 1937 Ford 5 window coupe, mud brown, with the 85HP badge on the grille, in front of the Safeway store. I was getting ready to leave a note on the car when an 85 year old woman came out and unlocked the passenger door and loaded some items behind the seat. No, the car was not for sale. Yes, she and her late husband had bought it new right here in Oakland in 1937. She still had an old, semi-retired mechanic who kept it running. The car was battle scarred, but not dented or abused. But it was her ONLY car, and had been in service for 51 years straight at that time. As she drove off, I could hear her shift the gears expertly. That car would have been a gem. Hard to believe that the old GTO's I've had for over 40 years now have been in service LONGER than that '37 at the time. 58 and 56 years, always tagged, always running. I guess now I'M the old goat.

I had the '67 convertible out yesterday (70 degrees and sunny) and was reminded once again how much better it rides and is assembled compared to my '61 Corvette. But the Corvette is more thrilling to drive. Back in the late 8o's, I did find my coupe--a 1937 Chrysler C-14 Imperial Deluxe. Kept it until 2001. Neat car....straight 8 with overdrive. I used to commute 50 miles a day to work in it. Click image for larger version

Cars back then didn't last long enough to even grow rust on the exhaust system

Horse-pucky. My '37 Imperial had no rust, and neither did my 1915 Ford. Both dry, West Coast cars. The guy I sold my '37 to had me ship it to Michigan and when he got it, told me his 3 year old driver was a rust bucket by comparison.
