One time I had returned to my C5, which was parked at Logan Airport in Boston, to a dead battery. Called the parking lot service as they do jumps and other stuff for people parked there. Battery was so dead that it would not take a jump.

Sooooo, the tech and I pushed the car out of the stall, then he pushed it with his truck to the down ramp, which was a spiral. Yup, no power steering. Got to the bottom of the ramp, popped the clutch and the engine fired right up! Whew! Paid the parking fee to get out, drove home and put in a new battery the next day.

Man, I hope that @87 Ragtop doesn't read this thread...

This thread made me think of the 3 year Sam's Club battery in my 63. I have a knife cutoff switch and a trickle charger. I tried to find the date code, but it isn't visible while installed. It has to be at least 10 years old.

The original battery in my 2009 vette lasted over 60,000 miles and until 2021, kind of crazy to think of. Even at that point it was still working well, there were a couple of abnormalities where it had some issues with unlocking the doors, so I opted to replace it as an overdue item anyway.

I've heard the 3 year battery line a hundred times here, but never saw the source. Your yellow pad must be bigger than UD's

Just recently had to replace both batteries in my daily driver. Date on them said 2017 and I always replace them in pairs, since I figure if one of them went the other must not be far behind. But I certainly do not replace them every three years just because.

@snide Well that explains why they totaled it so quickly when it was rear ended.

Ironically I never did figure out what would suck those batteries dry. If it went a week or more without driving it always needed jumped or a charger put on it.

I really miss that car
