With that said I do not like any permanent rack. I had a 73 Vette (bought used) that was very nice but just could not live with that growth on the back. Sold it about 2 months later.

A detachable, no damage rack used for reasons is one thing. Use it and take it off and put it back in the garage!

Well you just ain't old enough - carry 4 people on a trip with baggage and that tiny trunk fills up quick PLUS putting stuff on the rack is that much less to get to the spare tire if there should be a need for it. If you remember Buzz and Todd on Route 66 had a suitcase on a luggage rack on their early 60's Corvettes.

And on a first gen Mustang the trunk floor is the TOP OF THE GAS TANK, so not putting stuff in there that could cause a puncture is also a consideration

Don't know what you're missing, I once took a road trip in this car (you can just see the luggage rack on the trunk) with 3 friends including a girl in a miniskirt straddling the transmission tunnel - we were all a bit tipsy.

At one point she said, "If you hit 4th gear like that again we're gonna have to pick out furniture together!" Ahhh - to be young again !
