Simple Hyperflash Fix
I recently installed some clear corner assemblies with Switchback LED bulbs. I figured I could make my own "Hyperflas Harness" so after looking at the schematics I came up with a very easy and cheap fix.
I ordered a two prong LED friendly flasher unit, cut OEM feed (Pink) and output (Purple) wires going up into the Hazard switch and installed female spade lugs unto the wire ends. Connected them to the flasher unit and all is well now! Tim |

Great idea!! A better alternative to load resistors that heat up and smells like somethings burning!

It also by-passes the stock flasher that, as we know is prone to failing and that Hazard switch is sooooooo fun to replace!
So if your stock flasher has taken a dump or you have to puch your Hazard switch to get the Turn signals to work, this will fix it. Tim |

I know that this is a rather old thread, but I was just wondering if this fix does the same exact thing that the other retail harnesses do that cost $60-$70. Thanks.

I'm thinking about doing this fix this weekend to fix some hyper flashing that I'm experiencing due to adding some halo LED tail lights.
Will this disable the hazard switch functionality or have any other adverse side effects? |

Thanks for the pictures and information, was very useful. I purchased a flasher from ebay and worked great.
The one issue with bypassing the original flasher is that you lose the clicking sounds of the blinkers. Seems trivial but I found it a bit annoying so I came up with a solution. I wanted to post it here in case anyone want to use it. I used a regular automotive relay I had around my garage, the clicking on and off of the relay is same noise the blinker makes. Ignore all the posts except for the the 2 coil posts. In fact I cut the other post off. Originally I tried to connect it direct from purple output to relay and the other post to ground but the presence of a resistance (the coil) makes it click on and off even without turning on the blinker. I solved the problem by using a 2N2222 transistor and a 10k resistor. Any NPN transistor will do, I just had a 2N2222 with me. I connected the output(purple wire) to the resistor and then resistor to base of transistor. The pink wire was connected to the collector of the transistor and the the emitter was connected to one of the posts of the relay. The other post was connected to ground (black wire in the same bundle). For those curious the transistor acts like a switch, when the purple output energizes it lets the transistor flow current from the emitter (12v) to the relay. Every time the blinker blinks the relay clicks on and then off in perfect sync. Sorry I didnt take pics but if anyone is interested I can draw a schematic when I get a chance. funnyguyMI, this does not disable the hazard lights but it does not correct the hyperflash when hazards are on. Only fixes the turn signal. I believe that if you use another flasher unit on the brown wire in the same bundle it will fix the hazards but I havent had a chance to try it. I will order another flasher and try to fix the hazard lights when I get a chance. This is just based on looking at then schematic of the C5 flasher. I will try it one day and post results. Ivan |
