Decided to build a viewing platform so I can view trains at eye level. Neighbor supplied me with a s/s hospital style dinner serving tray cart, really heavy duty. Took the old kitchen island top for a chair base, should have it completed after a run to Ace for some securing hardware and then add a ladder.

You need some type of outrigger on the base so you don't do the "ultimate gravity check".

Even something as simple as a length of 4x4 on each end to make it rock solid

Seat not secured yet and won't let me lean over enough to upset. Not sure how I want to set up steps. It's solid and heavy, won't have a leaning over problem, however your idea is a good one, will test out to see if applicable.

I wasn't even concerned with the seat yet. My concern is with the former service table being able to pivot/rock since the wheels are inside the outer edge.

Hard to describe, but it's not a table, it's a cart, made of all stainless steel, like an industrial model. Wheels are actually closer to the outside than it looks. All climbing will be done at the open end.
Will report on stability as I progress along.
