Default Does it look like I'm made of money? People can tell you are rich by your face

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/02/stud...your-face.html

Quote:
A new study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology posits there's a good chance you can tell if someone is rich or poor just by looking at them.

"The relationship between well-being and social class has been demonstrated by previous research," R. Thora Bjornsdottir, a graduate student at the University of Toronto and co-author of the study, tells CNBC Make It. In general, people with money tend to live happier, less anxious lives compared to those struggling to make ends meet. She and her team demonstrated "that these well-being differences are actually reflected in people's faces."

Bjornsdottir and her co-author, psychology professor Nicholas O. Rule, had undergraduate subjects of various ethnicities look at gray-scale photographs of 80 white males and 80 white females. None showed any tattoos or piercings. Half of the photos were of people who made over $150,000 a year, which they designated as upper class, and the other half were people who made under $35,000, or working class.

When the subjects were asked to guess the class of the people in the photos, they did so correctly 68 percent of the time, significantly higher than random chance.

"I didn't think the effects would be quite as strong, especially given how subtle the differences are" in the faces, Rule told The Cut. "That's the most surprising part of the study to me."

I just commented to my wife a couple hours ago, that I think I have made EVERY critical decision in my life on the RONG choice.....mainly 2 ex wives, two kids later in life, and on top of that having to deal with a lousy skeleton.....

Looking back on it, I should have just stayed single like a buddy did, and got the hell over with it.....

Except for my wife here now....who suffers along with her family disasters.....

another krazy long story not her kid's fault at all, just the way shit goes.....

Uh, yeah, to those that don't know better, that means piss broke. To me, that means you don't answer to the The Man. The polar opposite of broke. But don't listen to me, I'm the guy at the gym wearing a yellowed T-shirt with holes in the armpits and 18 year-old Reeboks that are comfortable. A sharp contrast to the members there wearing the latest The North Face™ shit who are stylin' and profiling.

Interesting take on what they call "upper class". Horse shit in my experience.

The best explanation I have ever heard to explain "rich" is: Rich is when your money works for you, you don't work for it.

I've known people over the years that were stupid rich. Unless you knew it, you would have never known in a million years.

Ditto. NEVER fully shaving, and having a big gap between my two front teeth also probably adds to my hobo vibe.

I wear T-Shirts from Wal-Mart, the NRA, and Infowars and my non Trump hats are either NRA, Nascar, or Gamecocks.

I get my money's worth out of sneakers and I wear the same pair of jeans all week in the winter or cargo shorts all week in the warm months.

The Mrs. on the other hand could open an apparel and a shoe store with her closet(s) full of stuff.

100% correct.

This is why I'm building the last chapter in my life to be around cloud architecture and software as a service. It's building the "coin drop" opportunity. My personal dream of when I could retire was when my opportunities generated $30k a month without my ever getting my ass out of bed. Financial freedom is when your money (or your creations) make money for you when you don't have to work.

I make massive bank on an annual basis, but I still have to recover from 3 previous bouts of no work. I'm hoping to just run my current deal for another 15 years and I'll be golden.

My wife, on the other hand, is in awesome shape. She effing HATES spending money, and has a fuck ton in her IRA now. GWiz got her savings gene from my wife. She's going to be the cat's meow because she will have the ability to earn major bank at a young age, and major desire to save it. She has no desire to spend. Albeit, she will always have nice cars, and likely race.

At 19, she already has a healthy IRA.

I've gotta admit, though, I'm pretty good at spotting money. It's the little things. They may be dressed in Walmart's finest, and driving a 10 yr old Buick, but there's always a giveaway. Either in something said offhand, or maybe a piece of jewellry or a watch that doesn't fit with the low brow outfit.

When I lived in Tampa back in '03 I drove over to Orlando to the Ferrari dealership just for grins. I drove over there in my old work van, an '84 Dodge B150 with years-old body damage. I was wearing what I usually wear- old jeans, old tennis shoes and a Walmart collared shirt.

I was thinking that this would keep me from being hassled by the salesholes.

The minute I got out of the van, this one salesman was all over my ass. He would not leave me alone. I walked all over the lot and looked at a bunch of cars, not saying very much. Didn't matter. He was right behind me every step of the way.

I did wind up eventually going inside to talk about leasing one of their 328's. While he was running my credit report I asked him what had tipped him off since I didn't think I looked like I could afford anything on the lot. He just laughed and said he'd been selling Ferraris a long time and he knew a customer when he saw one. I pressed him for some more specifics, and he said it was mostly the way I spoke and carried myself that told him he had a live one.

Perhaps a good salesman, one who listens.
I have come across maybe a handful of car salespeople in my 45+ years
of dealings that are well-suited to the job. A rare ocurrance indeed.

I was at a local Ford dealer on Monday, to apply for a job.
Had an appointment, and when I drove up to the building,
the only parking spots available, were right by the showroom door.
So I parked, and as soon as I exited by car, a salesman walks out the door and is headed straight for me.
I started walking on an angle towards the service entrance, and the dude did a quick 90 degree spin and headed towards the lot of new vehicles.

Man, waiting like vultures at the door.

How you handle stress affects the book’s cover as well. I made good money, but look like shit because stress ****s me up, and in my world, people who make good money are subjected to a lot of stress. Some people thrive on it. I don’t, and try to avoid it now that I’m retired.

There are seven years between my wife and I, but people look at us and we appear as a May-Dec thing.

I know exactly what you mean, BW.

I am one of those who thrives on stress. I always, and I do mean always, put everything off until the last minute. Then, when I finally get started, I'm focused and very efficient with my actions because I have to be. And I rarely wind up with less than "A+" results.

Drives the other members of my family nuts though. THEY actually stress that I'm not getting things done like they think I should.
