SOUTH Africa’s parliament has voted in favour of a motion that will begin the process of amending the country’s Constitution to allow for the confiscation of white-owned land without compensation.

The motion was brought by Julius Malema, leader of the radical Marxist opposition party the Economic Freedom Fighters, and passed overwhelmingly by 241 votes to 83 against. The only parties who did not support the motion were the Democratic Alliance, Freedom Front Plus, Cope and the African Christian Democratic Party.

It was amended but supported by the ruling African National Congress and new president Cyril Ramaphosa, who made land expropriation a key pillar of his policy platform after taking over from ousted PM Jacob Zuma earlier this month.

“The time for reconciliation is over. Now is the time for justice,” Mr Malema was quoted by News24 as telling parliament. “We must ensure that we restore the dignity of our people without compensating the criminals who stole our land.”

According to Bloomberg, a 2017 government audit found white people owned 72 per cent of farmland in South Africa.

ANC deputy chief whip Dorries Eunice Dlakude said the party “recognises that the current policy instruments, including the willing-buyer willing-seller policy and other provisions of Section 25 of the Constitution may be hindering effective land reform”.

ANC rural affairs minister Gugile Nkwinti added, “The ANC unequivocally supports the principle of land expropriation without compensation. There is no doubt about it, land shall be expropriated without compensation.”

Thandeka Mbabama from the Democatic Alliance party, which opposed the motion, said there was a need to right the wrongs of the past but expropriation “cannot be part of the solution”. “By arguing for expropriation without compensation, the ANC has been gifted the perfect scapegoat to explain away its own failure,” she said in a statement.

“Making this argument lets the ANC off the hook on the real impediments — corruption, bad policy and chronic underfunding. Expropriation without compensation would severely undermine the national economy, only hurting poor black people even further.”

Pieter Groenewald, leader of the Freedom Front Plus party representing the white Afrikaner minority, asked what would happen to the land once it was expropriated. “If you continue on this course, I can assure you there is going to be unforeseen consequences that is not in the interest of South Africa,” he said.

Cope leader Mosiuoa Lekota said there was a “danger that those who think equality in our lifetime equates that we must dominate whites”, News24 reported.

Mr Malema has been leading calls for land confiscation, forcing the ANC to follow suit out of fear of losing the support of poorer black voters. In 2016, he told supporters he was “not calling for the slaughter of white people‚ at least for now”.

Civil rights groups have accused the EFF and ANC of inciting an ongoing spate of attacks on white farmers characterised by extreme brutality, rape and torture — last year, more than 70 people were killed in more than 340 such attacks.

Ernst Roets, deputy chief executive of civil rights group Afriforum, said the parliamentary motion was a violation of the 1994 agreement in which the ANC promised minority interests would be protected post-apartheid.

“This motion is based on a distorted image of the past,” Mr Roets said in a statement. “The term ‘expropriation without compensation’ is a form of semantic fraud. It is nothing more than racist theft.”

He earlier hit out at “simply deceitful” claims that “white people who own land necessarily obtained it by means of oppression, violence or forced removals”.

“The EFF’s view on redistribution is merely a racist process to chase white people off their land and establish it within the state,” he said. “This is not only deceiving, but also a duplication of the economic policies that the world’s worst economies put in place.”

Afriforum said it would take its fight to the United Nations if necessary. The matter has been referred to the parliament’s Constitutional Review Committee, which must report back by August 30.

Earlier this month, Louis Meintjes, president of the farmers’ group the Transvaal Agricultural Union, warned the country risked going down the same route as Zimbabwe, which plunged into famine after a government-sanctioned purge of white farmers in the 2000s.

“Where in the world has expropriation without compensation coupled to the waste of agricultural land, resulted in foreign confidence, economic growth and increased food production?” Mr Meintjes said.

“If Mr Ramaphosa is set on creating an untenable situation, he should actively create circumstances which will promote famine. His promise to expropriate land without compensation, sows the seed for revolution. Expropriation without compensation is theft”.

The very first thing the new "owners" did in Zimbabwe was to sell off all the existing machinery for what would produce the most immediate cash - scrap.

The next thing they did was to rip out the irrigation equipment - with which they did the very same thing.

Within a few short years the area went from being known as The Breadbasket of Africa to just another third world shithole.

The government started printing money like it was going out of style. There were 100 trillion Zimbabwe notes that were literally being used as toilet paper.

The second largest city in South Africa is running out of water and approaching "Day Zero" on their water supply.



News reports have been covering the looming water-shortage crisis in Cape Town, South Africa’s second-largest city. The focus of the stories, understandably, has been on the likely consequences, scary as they are. What they don’t discuss are the deeper political causes of this shocking situation, in which a major developed city and global tourist destination is about to run out of water.

The immediate cause is a devastating drought, now in its third year in the Western Cape province, of which Cape Town is the capital and economic powerhouse. The dams on which the city relies for its water supply are at dangerously low levels, with no rain forecast for the foreseeable future. But South Africa has faced an escalating water shortage for decades. Two years ago local observers sounded the alarm about Cape Town’s coming crisis. So there has been ample time to develop and implement an action plan. That has not happened. Now it’s the 11th hour: Day Zero — when the dams drop to 13.5-per-cent capacity and the taps are turned off all across the city — is expected by early June. The date was just pushed back from mid-April thanks to conservation efforts that reduced daily water use to below 550 million litres, down from more than a billion litres.

If Day Zero arrives, expect serious unrest as people fight for water. Ratings agency Moody’s, warning of a possible credit downgrade, said that, given the city’s marked income inequality, the water crisis posed a possible threat to social order. It’s going to get ugly, fast. How did it get to this? While there is plenty of blame to go around, here are two interconnected underlying causes.

Israeli technology could have helped make a difference but the government effectively boycotts Israel


The Western Cape is the only South African province not controlled by the African National Congress, the national governing party since apartheid’s demise in 1994. The Western Cape is governed by the Democratic Alliance, a liberal opposition party whose base is mainly made up of liberal whites, the so-called “Cape Coloured” ethnic group, and urban, educated blacks disillusioned with the ANC’s epic corruption and mismanagement. This irks the ANC to no end. The national government has been playing politics with water, hoping it might lead to the DA’s downfall if the party is seen to have mismanaged the water issue on its watch. However the water-supply infrastructure is a national government obligation, not a provincial one. The ANC government, focused obsessively on its own retention of power, has done almost nothing to plan for critical new water infrastructure for Cape Town.

The other related key factor has been the ANC’s dogged espousal of political ideology over pragmatic governance. Two years ago, when it could still have made a difference, an international conference on South Africa’s water crisis, organized in Johannesburg by South Africa’s Mail & Guardian newspaper, was cancelled due to political pressure. Israel’s then ambassador to South Africa was to have participated, Israel being a global leader in water conservation, recycling and irrigation, offering cutting-edge desalination technology. The South African wing of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement gloated at this cancellation, saying, “the rug has been pulled from the Israeli ambassador, who will not be able to exploit our very serious water crises for his own cheap publicity and whitewashing of his regime.”

That former Israeli ambassador to South Africa, along with its current ambassador and economic attaché, have reportedly all made repeated offers to the South African government to assist with Cape Town’s water crisis, and have been rebuffed. Never mind that Israeli technology could have helped make a difference. The South African government effectively boycotts Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Ties between Hamas and the ANC are close: Hamas participated in the ANC’s National Conference this past December. During that conference the ANC decided to downgrade the status of South Africa’s embassy in Israel to a “liaison office.”

Long-term planning for water is absolutely essential. The ANC government has done precious little. It has finally declared the drought a national disaster, meaning that it now takes the lead on dealing with the crisis. Meanwhile, Cape Town city council is rushing to build temporary seawater-desalination plants around the city, but these will likely not be ready in time nor have enough capacity to avoid Day Zero.

Cape Town is barreling toward a cliff, and as usual the poorest will suffer the worst. The ANC has a lot to answer for. Now under new leadership, it has the opportunity to change course. South Africans can only hope that Cyril Ramaphosa’s accession last week as president represents a new and effective engagement of the governing party in this national crisis.

This is why we absolutely need massive deportations and extreme immigration reform and the outright elimination of any immigration by 3rd worlders. If our population is allowed to undergo a radical demographic change, so will our culture, politics, and economy.

If the US looks like Brazil demographically later this century, then not long after so too will our Government, economy, and culture begin to look similar as well.

Mexico has just as many resources as the U.S. and Canada. It's a shit-hole comparatively in terms of government, civil liberties, the economy, wealth, living standards, middle class, etc. because of the culture, and especially the political culture, of its people.

Ditto central and south American countries.

We should allow immigrants from these countries that are UNlikely to perpetuate the culture and political ideals that made them what they are, and these happen to be the same people who will best help America via immigration - skilled workers and students who are masters of the English language, possess skills/career paths for which the American demand exceeds supply of labor, and who will be self-sufficient and net federal income tax payers, not net recipients of govt. spending.

Accepting these types of immigrants would (1) more evenly distribute where our immigrant population comes from across the world, and (2) massively lower the rate of legal immigration.

Tec Kennedy's immigration law in the 1960s has put us on the path to decline, and it was sold with the LIE that it would not lead to a change in America's demographic composition and political culture. America should be a multicultural society, and our legal immigration should be colorblind. But it should also have been restricted heavily to only productive immigrants who are beneficial to native citizens, and restricted heavily to maintain the native American population of European descent at 80%+ of the electorate and the black population descended from slavery at 10%+ of the electorate. Demographically speaking, Mitt Romney matched Reagan's 1980 performance. Yet Mitt Romney LOST the election in 2012, against an incumbent who in the past would have lost based on economic factors/performance. Years ago, I met a guy from the other place who was an immigrant from South Africa. He was in their military, and correctly predicted all of this. His family was able to sell their property and get out. The folks there will probably have to flee with just suitcases, and they certainly can't sell their real property.
