Nu Clear Power.......
Since the topic is up again in the news.....I have one simple question....
we mine Uranium, distill it down to the level of radiation necessary to create extreme heat to boil water and make sparks.......fine... now when the 'fuel' becomes weak, it's supposedly still radio active, and of course at increased levels so dangerous....ok fine.....makes disposal/storage a mess to contend with.... BUT, WHY can't it be distilled down to enough radiation to boil more water with?? maybe add more raw material, if necessary..... |

Think of the radiation like wood smoke... you start a fire, let the smoke out of the wood and end up with only ash which cannot be distilled back into something flammable.
We "burn" the fissile material out of fuel rods in a reactor and the "leftover" radiation is now too weak to make the fire burn, but is too strong to sleep next to. Can't make the ashes back into logs.... |
