Enterprise update 2020
I had to step away from this thing and I’m just getting back to it I need to finish the base and finalize wiring with the model on the base. I sort of forgot where I was with wire tracing. I also had to design reinforcements for the part that bears all the weight.

Oh yeah... this project predates the 1120 club by a long way. Newbies should do a brief search because the road to this point is curvy and many faceted. It might help all of you get to know Snik in a different light since his history is quite intertwined with this build.

I have a malfunctioning landing light in the shuttle dock but I may have to ignore it. Can’t figure out why. Lots of mystery wires that will need tracing with multimeter back the board to confirm it’s the right circuit. I believe there are 34 circuits controlled by micro processors. |

My first build about 15 years ago (kid destroyed with soccer ball) had a single circuit. You turned it on and it lit up - everywhere. This one uses microprocessors to light up parts of the ship in the sequence of the movie, let's you program your own start up routine, fires photon torpedos phasers, with synced light and sound (there are two speakers crammed in there), gradually fades from the yellow/gold of impulse power to the intense blue of Warp drive - complete with the dish and engines synced. Even the impulse engine on the back of the disk has it's own circuit to turn off and on (it goes off when warp drive kicks in - duh) The shuttle bay is a model unto itself with random pulsing blue Warp Cores, tiny people, tiny shuttles - shitload of lights including sequential landing lights. I'm a dork that loves a challenge. Except this one might beat me. About a dozen wires have to go down the mount tube, through the base and into the control box. They enter the model at the top of the tube and go up to the processor in the saucer. Somehow I have to get all those wires in place, then glue it up - never to be separated again. Same with the dish - once it's glued, you ain't fixing any wiring issues. If that ain't enough pain, the thing is three feet long and the most unganley shape ever. I can't glue the disk to the neck to the body until all the wiring is hooked up, tested and ready to roll. It looks pretty sad at the moment. I have to say - the pearlescent paints are friggin amazing. 5 different colors on the grid pattern. |

As a lifelong Trekster your advanced “model” is beyond comprehension (scale, circuitry and electronics, sequential lighting, paint scheme, etc.) for us “red-uniformed” mortals. If I win the lottery I’ll certainly come knockin’ to buy it. Despite its challenges, remember the thousands of us as kids who bought/relished having the standard white Enterprise (and, its light grey Klingon counterpart) model that just lit up the top and bottom saucer lights. I fondly recall hanging the two from my bedroom ceiling in the 70’s from clear fishing line, facing off with each other. What you are hand-crafting is light years (no pun) ahead of what even Gene would have ever envisioned in his wildest dreams - and, some of them were pretty out there. Do it right (wiring), paint, etc.) and be proud of your worthy hobby. Be sure to share your adventure on YouTube using a decent camera, title it carefully/right and watch the hit-ometer go absolutely crazy.
