This is sometimes true, will the "consumer at large" be willing to bear the cost of such precision? Further, how many, of the carpentry trade, have the skills, or time to build in the manner shown in this video?

Had some friends over this past week. She noticed our sideboard I made last year. We were discussing woodworking and pricing things. I noted that the materials alone cost about $600. Asked her how many folks she thought would pay $3000 for something like that.

Crickets.

Yeah.

The number of peeps who appreciate and will pay for hand crafted is pretty damn low.

Plenty have that skill. I'm one. I've done beam joints in a similar fashion. I've also built post & beam homes using zero nails/screws/bolts to frame the entire structure.

But no, most will not spend the necessary money for fine carpentry. Most wouldn't know the differance.

I'm currently building a Lake Cabin for an owner with an open check book. I'm approaching 2 years on the build. I've employed a crew of carpenters who have mill work and carpentry skills, but never built homes. With my help and under my direction...we have done some outstanding custom one off work.

Just wrapped up the bath vanity today. Nothing fancy, 11 drawers, (one behind center door), custom sized for the sink ank countertop. Painted plywood and painted poplar.

Cedar logs were cut a few years ago. Air dried under cover with bark on. Hand peeled bark. Hand sanded.

All rails and posts are going to be done this way. And the balusters will be smaller cedar twig.
