Expedia/travelocity......WTF?

I never use these sites to book flights, but I do use them to check schedules, availability, whatever. I never remember seeing a big difference in fares though.

I just booked a flight directly with delta for $2250, but the same seats through Expedia would have been $3800. Holy sheet!

It's an international flight so I like to see what all options are, that's the reason for checking Expedia.

It's hit or miss on sites like those, you can get great deals. Mainly people use them so don't have to look at different airlines individually. Same goes for hotels.

Exactly. I narrowed it down to really just Delta or Aer Lingus and both flights were $$$$ more.

If you book directly with an airline and something happens you’re FAR better off. Expedia and similar sites can’t do shit for you then.

I found that out the hard way on one trip. I use them to just check fares. No additional hassles if booking directly with the airline and a problem comes up.

I've seen that in hotels a lot, watching other people at the front desk when something gets fkd up. "Sorry you booked through Expedia so we can't fix that for you..."

Sounds like a great trip! We’ve been all over Europe except Italy. Some day. Our 46th anniversary is tomorrow; we’re going to Scotland in June to celebrate in pubs and on some historic golf courses.

We're doing a 14 night transatlantic cruise from FLL, back to back with a 12 night cruise once we get to Italy.

We've got port stops in Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Israel, Greece and probably some others I'm forgetting.

The wife has friends from college over there that she's hoping to meet up with and some family members that we haven't seen in quite a few years. She's been to Europe a few times back in the day, but I've never been across the pond before.

I NEVER use OTAs As posted previously, if there is a problem with your flight, you are screwed An airline rep cannot help you, got to go back to Expedia, etc
If you have a problem with your hotel, you are screwed, hotels put OTA bookings at the bottom of the pile for problem resolution. Also, a lot of hotel chains will not provide amenities etc you get if you book directly. I can’t believe people actually book through them

Back during the 20001-2005 era when I flew between Orlando and Wash DC EVERY week, some of those sites weren't bad, best prices and bundled rental car and a room if needed. But I haven't used any of those in years, my premium credit card offers Concierge travel services and I always wondered if they were worth a hoot buy never used them.

I just went to Rome last month. Booked with Delta directly and it was considerably cheaper than the 3rd party sites. Rome was incredible and I can't wait to go back.

Italy sounds fantastic, I've always wanted to go there. I just wish the whole trip wasn't so long. I'm not a fan of long vacations.

The longest I've ever done is 9, maybe 10 days...a week is just about right in my book.

I just decided to pull the trigger on a first class "Delta one" upgrade. Might as well end the trip with a comfortable 9.5 hour flight!
