Default Took the last train to Clarksville

Ok, I actually drove here, but I had an installation at a local high school. Very nice folks. The drive suk'd because I had about 1200lbs worth of crap in an old Toyota minivan going through western NC and eastern Tennessee. Its very twisty and hilly which would be great fun in a corvette but sux ass in a top heavy minivan. The good news is I have to go to KY tomorrow and Im about 300 lbs lighter.

from Wikipee:

Quote:
The song, written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart and recorded at RCA Victor Studio B in Hollywood on July 25, 1966. Lead vocals were performed by the Monkees' drummer Micky Dolenz. "Last Train to Clarksville" was featured in seven episodes of the band's television series, the most for any Monkees song.

The song has been compared to the Beatles' "Paperback Writer", particularly the "jangly" guitar sound, the chord structure, and the vocal harmonies. The Beatles' song had been number one in the US charts three months earlier.

The lyrics tell of a man phoning the woman he loves, urging her to meet him at a train station in Clarksville before he must leave, possibly forever. There was no explicit reference to war in the song but its last line, "And I don't know if I'm ever coming home", was an indirect reference about a soldier leaving for the Vietnam War.

It has often been presumed that the song refers to Clarksville, Tennessee, which is near Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the home of the 101st Airborne Division, which was then serving in Vietnam. However, according to songwriter Bobby Hart, that was not the case. Instead, according to Hart, "We were just looking for a name that sounded good. There's a little town in northern Arizona I used to go through in the summer on the way to Oak Creek Canyon called Clarkdale. We were throwing out names, and when we got to Clarkdale, we thought Clarksville sounded even better. We didn't know it at the time, [but] there is an Army base near the town of Clarksville, Tennessee — which would have fit the bill fine for the storyline. We couldn't be too direct with The Monkees. We couldn't really make a protest song out of it — we kind of snuck it in."

The lead guitar part was written and played by Hollywood session musician Louie Shelton who would eventually become a mainstay on Monkees recordings.

Not as bad as Atlanta by a longshot but very heavy for a Sunday afternoon. Maybe all those people were going to moms for sunday dinner?

Henderson, a stones throw from us in Indiana. I was just down in Clarksville looking at some property this weekend. Plan to move there soon and commute back up to the plant for a few more years. A two hour drive each way each day.
Should have stopped in Evansville on Franklin street for the Fall Festival. Lots of fried food and people there.
Evansville Nut Club Fall Festival.

Im driving from Henderson to Mount Orab Ohio today to do an installation in a school there. Its about 30mi SE of Cincinnati. Ill go home on Wednesday. I know it sounds like a lot of travel when I type it all out like that but I only work to about 2:00 every day, then I veg in my hotel. I have been writing technical training documents on my down time but I am traveleling alone for this one so its kind of boring. I dont get 'lonely' per se' because I like being by myself but Id like to have to option to hang out with someone.

That is the latest addiction. It is on display every day and pretty much all day every day. For a couple years now they said 100 people a day were moving to Nashville. Now I am hearing that number is 200 a day.

I know houses in my neighborhood have. People a few doors down from me bought their home for $550k (one year ago) and recently sold it for $770k but they did about $100k in upgrades

Been watching Clarksville, a bedroom community to Nashville from what I can see. The prices have been crazy. Looks like we will probably look for some decent land and build a house to retire to.

Well, Im not the boss yet. My boss has 4 more years till retirement and then maybe I will be in charge. I drove home from Mount Orab yesterday with an empty minivan. It was slightly better coming home than going but its still a 15 year old minivan with 140kmi on it. If I could fit everything in my camaro and take that, I would.
