1969 Road Runner Ad (from 1969)
Brakes probably drums, heavy duty suspension probably rough ride , feeling every bump in the road. Don't think I could live with a DD with a stick, and without ps, ac, cc, pw and seats cause I'm too dang old. When I was young yes and I did, as an old coot no.

We might be old but we still can drive a car with a stick, no air, and no power anything. Old people that can't might as well join the local Bingo club.

My older brother had a '69 Road Runner. No power anything. I took my driving test in it for my first driver's license.

New cars were reasonable until the Big 3 around 1972 caved into the UEW and allowed employee to get full pension and lifetime medical if the employee had 30 years of service and was 55 years old.
The cost was passed to consumers and the term used was "sticker shock". Car prices when up by 1/3. Yes, the salary and perks given to upper management was also crazy . |

We got something in common. My first vehicle in 1964 when I was 16 was a 1955 Chevy 210, 2 door sedan with 3 on the tree and a Blue Flame 6 cylinder. I love the 55.

As soon as I got my driver's license at 16-1/2 I got hired by a friend's mom in a business that she set up for us. She advertised, took the calls, owned the truck and paid for the insurance and gas.
The truck was a '66 C-10, straight 6, three-on-the tree. The gas pedal was gone- just the throttle linkage hanging from above. Every panel had a dent and it was brush-painted with white latex house paint. We charged $27/ hour and split it three ways. So I made almost three times what my other friends made working at the supermarket or some place like that. |

I had one exactly like the ad says, light metallic blue. I think I kept it for about a year, it was OK.

Only ever rode in one once and that was enough for me. It was controlled by wishful thinking. Riding in it reminded me of what it feels like to have a loaded gun held to my head... Interesting experience to be sure, but not something you want to repeat.

I bought a ‘70 RR from a workmate sometime in ‘71. It was a 440 3x2, 4 speed, 4:10s, 383 hood, small hubcaps, “trooper” pipes, a real sleeper. Looked like an old man’s Belvedere.
As I recall, it stickered for around $3600, I paid him $2500. That thing had unbelievable balls. But was not fun slamming the brakes on at 100. It would only do around 115 flat out cuz of the gears. My wife learned how to drive a stick with that car. Wish I had some pix of it. Black on black. |

Great price on the Road Runner, I will take 10!!
I took my driver's test in a friends '71 Cuda, passed easily. My first car was '77 Cutlass in white with 350 Rocket AND it had the highly-coveted Landau Roof which was mostly tan except for the ripples, it was huge, the doors must have weighed 500 pounds each. |
