the day she passed away, they gave me a folder with all sorts of stuff in it. on the back i started making a list of all the loose ends to take care of. got a few done today, including her health insurance coverage. after talking to several nice ladies, turns out someone else had already notified them. good. one thing done.

so i logged on to her insurance website, downloaded the summary for 2021, and 2022 thru end of July. the retail cost of all her medical bills so far:

$875,265.90

that will go up once they finish totaling up the hospital stay thru 8/2.

thankfully, we only had an out of pocket max of $6,700 each year, so that capped our exposure.

and this is why you maintain some sort of health insurance policy.

My mom tried this with their system the day after my dad passed and was denied. Account no longer valid. She has to request everything be transferred to discs as the will not re-instate the account.

SSA got their act together.

yesterday, bank acct showed a deposit pending. today, that's all gone. so the money guys did get the notification.

you don't get to keep the deposit/check issued in the month you pass away. so if you do it right, you die early in the month.

in other news, took the trash and recycles to the dump today. i can't smell, but the leaking liquid from one large trash bag in the garage was my clue that it probably smelled and was time to go. nasty.

see my lawyer next wednesday, go over her will and work on new will and powers of atty for me. need to find some responsible adults nearby.

also went on amazon and found some books that might help me going forward.

when we got married, i never thought i'd be referred to as a 'widower'....

received 2 books today, and expecting 4 more tomorrow, about grief and being a widower. i'll have to see if they are helpful. just started one this afternoon.

also had my financial advisor over this morning for a good, long chat. we've been involved with him in some form for a long, long time. in fact, Linda and her dad started using him about 13 years before we got married, so he has a good grasp on our family stories.
