Remember when a 20 meg hard drive was more than you would ever need, at least that is what we thought.
Anything like this?

I guess I just FEEL young, since I don't have any kids, I'm extremely immature, and my GF is 5.5 years older than me! I always tell her that when she was out drinking in the bars, I was zippin' around on my moped! :smilelol:

We used to go up to the college when I was in 4th and 5th grade and they had a line of PET computers that took cassette tapes and we would write simple basic programs and play games we got from one kids brother like D&D and super toker. The funny thing was that we were always the only ones using the computers in the college, a few grade school kids! We wanted our own computer so bad we called every rental place in town to see if they rented computers and they all said... Uuummm no.

Finally one day my Mom brought home this awesome Compaq portable computer!

it had a 4.77MHz processor and a whopping 128K of mem. That thing was the bomb and I played Zork and Hitchikers guide to the galaxy on that baby till I wore the letters off the keys. When we got a fancier computer I loved playing Liesure Suit Larry, especially buying libbed lubbers!

My first computer had tapes to load programs. You had to write the program each time. I remember writing the programs for Tic Tac Toe and thought it was just cool as all heck.

My Dad's work had a computer in it's own room for tracking the truck maintenance and other financial items. The computer had these huge tape drives that you had to load up for each program. The whole room was carpeted and air conditioned to keep the computer clean and quiet.

I'm not sure if mine had an LCD either. I'll bet my parents still have it somewhere.

Started out as a kid with the C64 Commadore system.

After 1 year in college went to work and had to start progamming on a Burrows A4 main frame system and ended up on a Burrows A7 main frame system years later. The computer room was kept at 60 degrees. BBBRRR.

My company finally had to get rid of all that old crap it 1999 because of the Y2K issue. In the case of those old dinosaurs it really was an issue.

I don't miss those days.

I had a Royal portable.

If you used the black and red ribbon, it had a color monitor.

Gary and I may be the only ones that will remember life before DOS. My first PC was an Intertec SuperBrain QD. CP/M OS and dual quad-density drives. No hard drive. It had 2 Z80 processors. One for processing and one for disc I/O. You ran the program on one disc and data on the other. With single drive machines you loaded the program and removed the diskette to insert your data diskette. Speaking of which - 8" floppies were "floppy discs". 5 1/4 were diskettes and 3 1/2 were "mini-diskettes". I remember all the oohing and ahhing when the 3 1/2 came out.

Alright - so I'm old...

Time for my nap...

Spent many an hour typing these out in the computer lab. And it always seemed like the punch card machine I got had a worn out ribbon so you couldn't proofread the card. Just had to run them through the reader and come back hours later only to find a typo.

We still have boxes of those laying around at work we use for note cards. Makes for great note cards by the way.
