Do kids not appreciate anything anymore?
I dropped one of our work trucks off at our mechanic yesterday and he had a brand new still had 30 day tags Honda Civic up on the lift with the tranny torn out. As I walked up I saw the works turbo in chrome on the side and just knew this story was going to be good....so I asked.
He told me it was a young kid, 20 at most he thinks, he was racing, was running the car at 158 mph, & tore the hell out of the tranny and the clutch...well, the clutch was just no more. He said he was going back and forth with the Honda dealer trying to get info on what the car had because he is not that up on all the different "trim levels" that the foreign cars have for all the models, and the first thing he did was call the dealer. Honda told him there was no turbo Civic, so he said he would call them back and check it out. Popped the hood and it was a little 4 banger, and a turbo was of course no where to be found. He had someone from Honda come over and hook it up the the big brother reader and found out that the car had been run at 10K RPMs for 6.3 second...yes the little 4 cylinder had been run at 10 THOUSAND rpms for over 6 seconds. Our mechanic know a little about speed, since he built and races his own top fuel dragster, so he and I had a good laugh about the story and I am still wondering how he did not blow his engine. But I mean do kids today just really not appreciate things. I loved my Z28, and my C4, and love my C5, and I did/do drive them pretty hard, but that was just plain abuse...10K for over 6 seconds? On a brand new car to boot.

No rev limiter?
Edit: Must've been an ill-advised downshift.. Last edited by Neutron; 10-30-2009 at 9:20pm. |

10k might sound outrageous...but a 2010 Civic SI makes peak power at 7800, and redlines at 8000.
So he downshifted wrong and popped the clutch...FWD car, yeah that has the power to wreck some stuff (front wheels won't lock up quite as easily pulling that maneuver). |

How are we supposed to believe someone who says "fallign" and "Furthermore, we find terminal velocity by detwermining our variables"?
