Man struck by police 'electronic control device' dies






A Lancaster man who was struck by a police "electronic control device" after officers responded to the call of a violent domestic disturbance died shortly before 7 a.m. today, Lancaster Police reported.

Police said officers were called to the violent disturbance that was reported to 911 by a resident of the home. Officers arrived to find a 28-year-old male, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 275 pounds, assaulting another man who lives in the home.

The electronic device failed to control the suspect, police said. He continued to battle police officers, who had hoped to restrain him in order to take him by ambulance to the Erie County Medical Center for mental health evaluation.
