Anyone use Seafoam?
I have seen many videos extolling the benefits of Seafoam. Lots of before and after camera shots of valves, combustion chambers and such showing how well the product worked cleaning them up.
I was at the local AutoZone couple of weeks ago and they had the medium size bottles on sale. I picked up a couple. Added one to the F150 right before I sold it. Put the other in the Corvette. My fuel mileage has always stayed consistent at 17.2. After only one full tank my fuel mileage has gone from 17.2 to 18.0 even. On the second tank now. I have been driving the exact same route to and from work. Same gas, same speeds. No other changes. Curious to see if it keeps improving. On a side note, my brother has a 350Z vert with the enthusiasts trim package. He said on his car he figured out that if he turns off the traction control when he drives he gains about one mpg. Anyone tried this? |

I had a 396 Chevelle that was running like crap. I was young and didn't know much about cars or mechanics then. My uncle had made a career out of it though. He came over and told me to fill a small Coke bottle with water. He said to get in the car and keep it revved up. He slowly poured that bottle of water down the carb. while I kept it running. The car smoothed out and purred like a kitten. We pulled a plug and it was clean as a whistle. The water got into the cylinder and was super heated is my understanding now almost like steam cleaning the internals. It knocked all the carbon deposits off the valves, plugs, etc...just have to be careful not to hydrolock the engine. It was an old mechanics trick that I'm sure he had used many times over the years.
Seafoam probably does something similar, but in a safer manner being added to a tank of fuel. Or cleans whatever injection setup you have - injectors, carb. throttle body, |

Big fan of Marvel Mystery Oil - to this day it is my "go to" additive for fuel/oil and can get you out of trouble quite often. One morning I started the wife's 2002 Thunderbird and heard this:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PQItzEq87_w I figured and hoped it was a gummed up lifter, threw a bottle of MMO in the crankcase and within about 60 miles the noise stopped and never returned... Been using it for years. |

Been using Seafoam in marine applications since the 90's when carbs ruled.
Now all my marine engines are FI; and I still use Seafoam, but, now I use it in every ICE. |

I put a bottle of Seafoam in my vettes full gas tank before storing for the winter in my garage. The car always started right up and ran good in the spring.

Been using it for decades. It's all I used in my commercial air tools which are still perfect after over 40 years of service. It helps with alcohol infused gas in that it helps against fuel system rust. My '61 Corvette likes it as it makes the leather cup seals in the carburetors supple. Plus, it SMELLS great!! |

Does MMO have any zinc in it? I know they've changed motor oil over the years and the old cams needed more zinc in the oil. I try to remember to add some on my truck oil changes. But, wonder if it's a good idea or not.

I've been running Rotella or Delo diesel-spec oil in my older flat-tappet cars for the past 20 years and tens of thousands of miles. No worries, and no need for expensive 'boutique' motor oil. Diesel-spec has all th ZDDP you need. |

Does the diesel oil gum up oil filters? I try to run a quality filter, and just wonder if a regular type filter can handle that type oil? Why is diesel oil different than regular oil? |

Seafoam is the shit! 1 bottle in the gas tank, 2/3 a bottle in the oil pan, 1/3 sucked up through a vacuum line. Let it stall the motor while sucking it up, let it sit for 10 min, start it back up and let it idle for a few minutes then go on a spirited drive.

That's the only change I have made, and I picked up almost one mpg. Gotta believe it does something good.
I also use MMO. It has proven itself several times when a slight tick was present. And the water through the carb trick? Yeah, I'm that old. Done that many times on the old carb cars. |
