Looking at that picture, I think I have an irregular heartbeat - may require hospitalization

Its nice when your grown kids finally land in a profession they love and excel in. After several career "dead end" spots, my 44 year old daughter is now a VP with Citibank and is digging it so far..

Agreed. I see sooooo many 'failure to launch' kids these days it's refreshing to se successful, grounded young people. Is it coincidence that they're the ones with conservative parents?

That's only part of it. When our kids were babies Baby Doll read a study of successful people, and researched what their parent were like. Almost as a rule, the mother was nurturing, and the father was borderline dictatorial.

Both my kids are successful.

This AM a patient coded, her charge nurse grabbed her and advised she would do more than observe.
Doc told her to straddle the patient and give compressions, very physical, she did excellent, doctor commended her, the patient will live to enjoy another hospital lunch.

Great feeling to know your children are in a career they love, and making an impact.

I take no credit, her mom did all the heavy lifting.

And yes, here she is, great kid, her smile is her best asset!!
As someone who has survived a full-code…thank your daughter for choosing (and excelling at) the profession she did.

Patient was younger, had 20-something daughter always at her bedside, daughter was devastated.

I still remember attending my wife's Nurse Pinning Ceremony when she graduated in 1989, we were dating at the time.
The speaker for the ceremony was the dean for the college of nursing, and she told a story that a student once asked her was it normal to cry when a nurse loses a patient.
Her reply was when you stop crying, it is time to stop being a nurse--I will never forget those words.
My wife was a High Risk OB Nurse for 35 years. She has seen things that are just imaginable. Babies born with horrific deformities.

Ha ! Teacher told my parents in a parent-teacher's meeting that I might have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) which would require pharmaceuticals. Later that evening Dad called it "daydreaming in class" and cured it with a single application of his old Marine Corps belt. A medical miracle !!

My granddaughter is a 16 year old Battalion Commander in Navy JROTC and has been invited to visit both West Point and Annapolis this summer. She's in charge of 1/3 of her school's cadets (commanding 90 students). Her parents and I decided when she was in the 8th grade to snatch her out of public schools; they are a joke now.

Oldest daughter is a medical lab worker.
M-I-L was a nurse for 40+ years, retired now, and ignoring all doctor's orders.
Great job by your daughter and the rest of your family. My GF is a peds neuro-trauma nurse. With staffing shortages and burnout, it's a tough time to be a nurse.

A downside to being married to a nurse is that IMO, they become somewhat desensitized to seeing the human body.

Seen one, ya seen um all....

Nonsense. Just because Yadkin can't be my parent doesn't mean he can't be a life-coach and role model to me. I'm learning a LOT about steel sinks this week. Carry on.
