Default Son is frighteningly thin

My boy went on his first date today and as he was getting dressed I saw him in his tighty whiteys. Holy shit he is thin. I'm not talking skinny. I'm talking Auschwitz. (serious)

I'm going to intervene. Advice appreciated. I don't think he has an eating disorder - I think his diet terrible. He has been skipping lunch and he says he is now eating (says he's not hungry).

I threatened to show up at his school to confirm he is eating. I think the next step is to start making him drink protein shakes and high calorie stuff.

He's been hiding it under baggy clothes. I was thin as a kid and my wife is thin too - but not Skelator thin.

Is he tall or short? I have two nephews with Celiac disease and they are very thin and not very tall. If he is tall, it could be a growth thing. First comes height, then comes width.

(If he starts singing Carpenter's songs, seek immediate help)

He is tall. I'm hoping it's just that he's growing.

I was 5'9" 135 when I graduated high school. Ate like a pig, but couldn't gain weight if I tried. But I was playing tennis 4-6 hours/day, 6-7 days/week.

When I got to college and stopped the exercise the weight finally started to come on.

It could just be a part of growing for him. But if he's not eating there could be something else.

Probably not a bad idea to ask his doctor rather than a bunch of amateur EMTs on the forum.

I was Auschwitz thin too in my teen years, and I ate everything in sight. My metabolism was on overdrive I guess.

And wrists.

I got pretty serious about the gym when I hit 40. After about a year of a pretty serious routine it was obvious I was never gonna pack on a ton of muscle mass. I just don't have the frame/genetics I suppose. Regardless, I still go, I just quit fukin' killing myself.

I graduated HS at 5-11 1/2" and weighed 135 lbs soaking wet. I too could eat like a horse and not put only weight. It wasn't until I worked as an ironworker that I put on any weight ( as muscle )

Get Enzo checked out just to be safe.

I'm going to have him do a complete blood work up. We have some insurance issues right now so I may have to wait a few weeks. In the meantime, I'm going to make him eat.

Cute girl...

As far as your son and gaining weight. There are multiple ways to get this done.

He might have a very active thyroid. I was a skinny kid up until I turned 16 or so. Graduated HS at 175lbs at 6 feet tall, still 'skinny' but at least I had muscle from swimming and lifting weights at the gym.

I would make him keep a food log, and see exactly what he eats. This could show you that yes he is only eating 400 calories for lunch and through out the day till he gets home from school.

There is the age old, weight lifters trick of a gallon of whole milk (organic preferably) a day.

For the more extreme measures you could do what this guy did, and yes your guaranteed to gain weight.

Scroll 5 mins into the vid for the diet...
