And the fastest growing city last year was...
Boise, Id. "Tech dislocation" gets much of the credit, as tech companies move out of higher priced areas of California. Seattle, Wa was #2, Dallas, Tx #3.
Boise is America's Fastest-Growing Metropolitan Area https://www.forbes.com/sites/samanth.../#c5d73217febf Overall, Texas and Florida are the big winners on that list. |

Leaving California to go to Seattle seems like trying to break your alcohol dependency by substituting rum for whiskey.

True- but comparatively speaking, Seattle is dirt cheap compared to Silicon Valley. And the... ummm... political climate is more compatible with those used to Northern Ca. Boise will seem like another planet.

I grew up in this house.
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5...?fullpage=true Folks built it in 1950 for the princely sum of $26000... cash money. Relatives couldn't believe a) they'd pay that much for a house that b) was that far out in the boonies. Same family we sold it to in '72 still own it. I assume one of the kids have it. *And I understand why. Tax assessment is $342,000, taxes about $5000. Roughly 1/10th of the real value (taxes bump to that after it's sold). |

L-A is a funny place. It's common to see someone drive, for example; a MB G SUV with a base price of $123K, and live in an apt. |

I was half wondering if our hood (Lehigh Valley) might jump up in this thread.
Scott Piece from the NY Times I don’t know of another place in the world that has gone from a submarket to a global hub in eight years As a result, the stretch of eastern and central Pennsylvania that includes the Lehigh Valley has grown faster than any other market in the country over the last five years Forbes has put us in the top 30 places to live in recent years. Due to low crime, proximity to NY and Philly metro markets, good schools etc. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/22/b...ore-ipad-share

The housing market here in St Lucie county is booming. Lot's of people from the Northeast and upper Midwest are spending the majority of thier time here. Almost all are HNW individuals whose children are all grown and on thier own.

Hasn't that more or less always been the case, though? Nobody retires, sends their kids off to college, and then says, "You know what my life has been missing all these years? More bad weather and subzero temperatures."

At this stage of my life, the last thing I want is acreage to take care of. A 1500 sq ft ranch with a three car garage in the right area sounds about perfect. We're thinking a little further south, down in the Willamette Valley though. Everyone dies famous in a small town, dontcha know.
