I don't think it requires boiling water. I think any temp water will do the same thing.

Incorrect. There are, in fact, circumstances where hot water freezes faster. See: the Mpemba effect.

Can hot water freeze faster than cold water?

When we tried the experiment in middle school, all but one of the students saw their hot water freeze faster than the cold water.

Even Aristotle wrote of it.
