Default Question for anyone who ever distilled whiskey

I would like to make some whiskey.

I can get recipes and actually, I can get some real good moonshine already to drink. However, I want it to be real smooth and have a barrelled taste.

To do that, should I filter the whiskey a few times with a charcoal filter?

Can I add the barreled taste by using the oak similiar to that used to oak wine rather than age it in a barrel. What I thought of is taking oak chips and char them and let them sit in the container for say a month or so.

I ain't got time to age it no damn 12 years. I want it now!

Don't worry about aging it. Moonshiners have a cigarette while it ages.

Just be very careful, there only a couple of degrees difference between getting hooch and poison, or wood alcohol which causes blindness and death.....

From what I learned from some old timers:

Use a Thump barrel.
Double screw your first runs....always.
Charcoal filtering won't add flavor, just clarity.
A small hardwood keg that has been slightly charred, will add some flavor, the longer the better.

Good luck
